During the Great Depression, FDR’s “Farm Security Administration” sent out many photographers to capture the plight of impoverished Americans. In 1940, he realized that all those photos made America look weak before its enemies and the nature of the photos immediately changed to show America as muscular and strong. Agitprop at its finest.
What’s interesting is you don’t see a single photo of the poorest of the poor begging during the GD. People had tremendous pride and integrity then.
I agree. There is nothing funny about it at all. I remember hearing one of my black employees telling me a story about his SC family abandoning him once he went to college. He was supposed to stay on the plantation like everyone else. Instead he went to Russia for his doctoral studies and never looked back. He went to explore their rush to freedom. I really hope he is doing well.
This poor man listened to his family and see where it got him. Damned if I will ever live on my knees.

Before Obama, no president wanted people to bow to him.
To me the man kneeling looks to be a homeless man (donated clothes, a warm but torn and dirty coat) who is so desperate for help that he is kneeling beside the Presidential limo praying for Obama to help him.
Either religion has failed him or he somehow was never exposed to or accepted the invisible God that made all things that he can have faith in. So he worships the one man on earth who he believes has near absolute power,
I would not make fun of him. He is human like us. I truly feel sorry for him.
To me it is a very, very sad picture...
