I’ve always found the Carpenters really annoying. So syrupy. But I have to admit that Karen Carpenter did seem to have a flawless voice.

Christina Auiller is not a singer. Entertainer sure but as dalebert notes Beverly Sills could easily make this list.

I like Joplin’s music, but I would never in a million years think of her as a serious singer.

To me, Janis is one of the worst singers of all time. An awful screeching mess. Steve Marriott with boobs. Janis sounds like Robert Plant, or Rod Stewart, only worse.

I agree. She sounded sloppy, gravel-voiced, undisciplined. I guess if you sound really bad, like Joplin and Bob Dylan, that means you’re good, to some people.

I don’t think ANY of them deserve top 10 status. Pat Benatar? Christina Arugula?

OH, and despite her politics there is no way Linda Ronstadt shouldn’t be on this list.
She has crossed every genre successfully.

Excuse me, but Judy Garland may be a sentimental favorite, but her singing is quite lacking.
