Great article. I like the history of previous business cycles.
We should be in the middle of a prosperous recovery by now.
To: MustKnowHistory
Exactly. Even if the recovery for this recession took as long as the longest recovery of the past, then approx. 6% growth should have already started 16 months ago.
Why didn't it start? Because the Dems already had control of Congress and because business was hunkering down, shedding jobs and hoarding cash, in anticipation of the inauguration of The One.
The thing that scares me is the part about Bernanke doing the Seventies Redux by reintroducing inflation as a substitute for 'growth.' Anybody who lived through the 70's knows what inflation did to everything you buy or sell (including yourself by way of salary). People don't remember that while house, clothes, food and every other price went through the roof, salaries didn't come anywhere near to keeping pace.
I cannot believe that supposedly smart people are willingly doing this to our country...;-))

Believe me,I remember the Carter years....
To: MustKnowHistory
I figured you did...;-))
But a lot of people, especially the Dem talking-points, Kool Aid drinkers, don't get any of this. One particularly dull Dem friend of mine said the other day that he thought the last Prez who actually 'got it' was...Nixon! Because of the wage and price freeze, of course -- that way big bad business couldn't screw the little guy by raising prices all the time...heavy sigh, so much ignorance to combat...
I am convinced now more than ever that anybody not sounding like they are for free markets needs to be unceremoniously tossed from office, no 'centrist' working with them, no 'meeting them halfway' on their road to Socialist Hell so we get some quickly forgotten concession, no earmarks, period. ;-))

Excellent article. Gosh, how come the "investigative reporters" don't write something similar?
Oh wait, they are too busy with more important issues such as, Charlie Sheen's addiction and Brett's texting.
They have their priorities don'tcha know.

I had to look that one up.
Seiche: (noun) A wave that oscillates in lakes, bays, or gulfs from a few minutes to a few hours as a result of seismic or atmospheric disturbances.
I guess weather would be an atmospheric disturbance.

We live pretty close to the bay, and even closer to the river.
I fear for our basement.:(

To clarify: we are in no danger of direct flooding from either the river or bay. What we ARE in danger of is bay water backing up into storm sewers and causing low level flooding and water in the basement.
Our sump pump is going to get a workout........
