Elmer, the meek little bookkeeper, disappears the next day, but is found dead.

Since Sisle does not carry a gun, Pate kills anyone who draws against the gambler, claiming "self defense". Having discovered the scam, Matt runs Pate out of town, leaving Sisle unprotected, which forces him to run an honest game. When Cooter Smith, a simple minded man who had kicked in the head by a horse, is seen wearing a six-gun, Matt learns he is in Sisle's employ. In a program sidelight, Kitty, who has been a free agent until now, frequenting all of the Dodge City saloons (the Long Horn, the Texas Trail, the Alaferganza, etc.) has started working at the Long Branch.
