VANCOUVER (Reuters) - Hollywood actor Randy Quaid and his wife, wanted in the United States on vandalism charges, are seeking refugee status in Canada, saying on Friday they feared for their lives. The couple were arrested in Vancouver on Thursday after police responded to a call and found there were arrest warrants out for them in California. Officials incorrectly said earlier that were arrested on Wednesday.

In a rambling presentation at an immigration hearing, Evi Quaid said eight of her husband's acting friends had been murdered in recent years and they feared he would be next. "We feel our lives are in danger," she told the Immigration and Refugee Board hearing. Their attorney, Brian Tsuji, later read a note from the couple to reporters. "Yes, we are seeking asylum from Hollywood star whackers." Randy Quaid, 60, complained he had been persecuted for 20 years. He appeared in such films as "The Last Picture Show," "The Last Detail," and "Brokeback Mountain," and is the brother of actor Dennis Quaid.

Let’s not be too quick to mis-judge this Hollowood loon right out of the box. In my mind, he’s one of the freaks in Hollowood that is doing the honorable thing and actually leaving America. At least he’ll feel safe and comfortable in the luxuries and freedoms of Canada.

This just in from Canada TV News:

Dog the Bounty Hunter Vows to Capture Quaid

The pair, who was charged with felony burglary in Sept., is accused of squatting in the guest house of a Montecito home they once owned together in the 1990s. California authorities said at the time the couple caused more than $10,000 damage to the home, including smashing a $7,000 mirror. Evi was also charged with resisting arrest.

Celebrity bounty hunter Duane 'Dog' Chapman issued a public challenge to Quaid and his wife Thursday night, urging him to turn himself into U.S. authorities or face capture by the TV tough guy.

"At least do it for your wife and for how you were raised. If not, the Chapman family is coming after you," the bounty hunter told comedian George Lopez on his late night show, Lopez Tonight.

Chapman also said he'd like to have an intervention with Quaid, saying his life appears to have spiraled out of control.

Can anyone here spell P-A-R-A-N-O-I-D?

There’s got to have been a very serious drug habit going on here for a very long time for this kind of behavior. Either crack or crank would do the job. Too bad. I loved the dufus “Cousin Eddie” type of characters Randy use to play.
