DENVER (AP) -- Poor medical marijuana patients in Colorado won't have pay state marijuana registration fees or sales tax on the pot they buy.
The Colorado Board of Health approved a plan Wednesday to waive the $90 registration fee for indigent medical marijuana patients, starting Dec. 1. Patients who want their fees waived will have to show that they meet other government standards for indigence, such as qualifying for food stamps.

“I won’t have to worry about my food, healthcare, cell phone bill, gas in my car, my mortgage, money for my blunt or....”
Dang! This is a great country! Free food with food stamps, free housing, free cell phones, now free Pot!!! I love that I’m working my butt off so some loser can get high with my tax dollars. Being poor and high is looking better and better. Let some other schmuck support me.
So much for “if you don’t want to smoke pot, don’t buy any”.
Now citizens have to buy OPP - other peoples’ pot. Who then can’t work because they have to chill...
There goes the tax revenue angle for legalization freaks
Um, the pot gave me the munchies.
Can I have another round of food stamps?
Just sayin’

When you legalize the harvest of pot, the unions will step in and drive out all of the profit.
Uh, the pot isn’t free - the state is waiving the registration fee to buy it legally.
While I'm in favor of legalization, I've never used tax revenue as a reason. I'm not a fan of "sin" taxes.
I doubt the percentage of the potential tax revenues these recipients could be responsible for is large enough to even notice, besides, these are the people that will probably grow their own.
Maybe some of them will grow it, and become small business entrepeneurs and pay taxes.
Or maybe they will daydream about it while passing the bong around the table and then go put on some tube and watch Jon Stewart until the bars open.
Maybe so.
I support legalization of marijuana in small personal quantities. I would even qualify for medical marijuana.
But this is just plain stupid.
The only thing dumber than putting people in jail for smoking marijuana, is smoking marijuana every damned day of your life.
It will also complicate calls for drug testing all welfare recipients.
Suddenly I feel sick.
None of it should be taxed at a higher rate than the overall sales tax rate.
and since they are too poor to pay the registration fee, I’m sure medicaid is picking up the tab for the pot.
