Chait seems to be arguing that the best way to "reduce government" is by "raising taxes".
Idiot.

The thing is, I don't support their goal of reducing government, so I shouldn't care. But I do care about long-run fiscal solvency, so it would be nice if you could find some anti-government Republican, somewhere, who was capable of recognizing the intersection of his own ideological self-interest and the interest of fiscal responsibility. Instead they will continue on in their belief that flinty resolve will win the day.Okay, lets translate. The Democraps would rather sink the whole country in debt and watch unemployment soar, than cut spending without permanent tax increases included.
Thanks for the news bulleten, Castro.

The real conservatives know how. He must be talking about the RINOS who are a part of the shakedown.

(Give me back my conservative vote; then find me a real conservative to vote for)

Shorter Jonathan Chait: Print lotsa dollars, raise taxes (while cheating on your own...), and then bury all the stories about inner-city unemployment at Great Depression levels and constantly claim to be “helping” the poor (so that well-to-do white Libs can conformably stay in power and never have to suffer the same fate)...
Sounds like a plan-thx Jonathan!...
