Bear Steals Roast, Ice Pops From Woman's Home

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. -- A 400-pound black bear broke into a Seminole County home, rummaged through the freezer, and stole a pork roast and ice pops.

WFTV talked to the homeowner who said she came face-to-face with the bear.

Residents living along the edge of the Ocala National Forest are use to peace and quiet. But for Charlotte Rooney, that all changed one day last week.

"At 5:30 in the morning, it was quite shocking," Rooney said.

"What was it like to be nose-to-nose with him?" WFTV reporter Berndt Petersen asked.

"Terrifying. It really was," she replied. "I haven't been afraid of very many things in my life. But I was terrified that morning to where I couldn't move or speak."

A male black bear tore out a window, climbed into Charlotte's house and went straight for the freezer. He somehow figured out where they keep the food and in one of his big, black paws, he had a pork roast.

I'd call that WTF-TV.

I can’t imagine how frozen in fear I’d be.

Incredible story.

With the proper weapon at hand, the bear would be eating his last meal ... but that is just me.

No beer either. Maybe it wasn’t the bear’s fault.

I don’t want to kill the bear but are there any animals anywhere that aren’t hungry?

Black bears are cute. Clark trading post in NH has a bunch of them that will do anything for ice cream.

On my honeymoon, me and the wife watched one eat a bushel of apples in about two minutes.

Messy as all get out, but a sight I will never forget.

The northeastern blacks only get near 400lbs when there are two stuck together humping.

Hard times for Rosie O’Donnell if she’s reduced to stealing.

(And just ONE roast? Must be trying to cut down.)

We go camping in the Adirondacks in NY at a certain campground and we always get a great water site because besides making a reservation in advance, some people are to afraid to camp there due to the bears. The Black Bears are just not afraid of people, and if you leave your food out they'll come and get it. We were making smores two years ago at dusk and a bear comes up to the site, pops the top of the cooler like he's done it a million times and takes the container of tuna macaroni salad. He carries the container about 20 ft away and eats it all. Or so we thought. After he left my two daughters went over and laughed their butts off because the bear had ate the salad but pushed the peas aside leaving them in the bowl, just as the girls had done on their plates. Hey I tried to add some veggies and the bear wouldn't even eat it!
