The U.S. government does not have “effective control” of 1,081 miles of the 1,954-mile-long U.S.-Mexico border, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the division of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) responsible for securing the border.

Don't tell Nappy, she's convinced we do.

Bersin went on to say that the “best way” to secure the border is to create a “legitimate labor market between the United States and Mexico,” which a CBP spokesperson later said meant a guest worker program. “It’s about flows of people

IOW, amnesty. Enough already. We already have a flow of people. That's the problem. We need to stop the flow and kick those out who have over stayed their welcome.

The US has no control of the Mexican border.

The US ‘controls’ only law abiding US citizens & foreign nationals who voluntarily and legally enter the US through official ports of entry, pass customs and are subjected to INS search, passport/visa presentation and interrogation.

Measuring success is a problem for all law enforcement. They don’t make, ship or sell widgets. Is apprehending more illegal aliens a success or a failure to properly deter them from entering in the first place?

The reality is that neither measurement is reflective of anything other than the strength of the economy. The Border Patrol has no ability to effect how many illegal aliens will show up at the border and attempt to cross tomorrow. All they can do is respond to whatever shows up.

Congress does have the ability to deter how many people will show up tomorrow through their policies. It is the lack of an effective policy that feeds this mess everyday.

Bersin is right that jobs are the key to about 85% of the problem. No jobs available no one comes. Shut off the jobs and you shut off 85% of the crossings.

How can we do that, simple E-Verify. If you employ anyone and write of the labor as a business expense then you must perform an E-Verify check on the individual and document it. Send in the name of the employee, SSN and the E-Verify verification number along with your tax return or no deduction will be granted.

If you employ domestic help the same rules apply. There you have it, this simple system will reduce illegal immigration by 85% and cause a significant number of illegals already here to self deport and the Border Patrol will be able to focus on criminals, terrorist and dope smugglers instead of Juan and Maria apple pickers.

After one year we can then talk about a guest worker program.

Give me modest amounts of manpower, money, equipment, and arms, and I could secure pretty much of all of that border in one month.

We don’t lack the ability, we simply lack the political will.

Nothing new.

My dad emailed me a statement that Patty Murray made during the last debate between her and Rossi. She stated that the Canadian border was secure when Rossi was taking about our southern border. Gotta keep them pesky Canadians from coming down here to take jobs in the movie industry and the media ... oh, wait ....

What about terrorists trying to cross the border? They don't give a damn about the labor markets in Mexico or the USA. Our elites are living in a dream world that will get a lot of innocent folks killed.

"Employ" the US Military to guard the border. This is too easy.
