Hi, Dolly. Et Al:

John Carpenter's The Thing has better special effects than Howard Hawk's The Thing From Another World. Though nothing can touch Hawk's original for claustrophobia, tension and overlapping dialog.

Michal Mann's Manhunter is still far superior to the later Red Dragon due to Mann's cast, pacing and Tom Noonan as Dollarhyde. Even though the dialogue remains basically unchanged.

The Godfather pictures don't count, because those are sequels, or continuing stories. Not re-makes

Modern re-makes always run the risk of failure due to the simple fact that the original director is rarely, if ever available and the writers are never up to the task.

Just my two cents

Jack.

Sabrina

Star Trek (okay, it was a remake of a TV show, but it was done with GREAT affection, and doesn’t take itself too seriously)

Phantom of the Opera
