Can anybody think of one movie remake which was better than the original?

I only ask because I can't think of one.

I’m to the point that I won’t even bother watching a remake of anything...they generally always suck and only serve as a vehicle to show off their new production capabilities with computer animation and/or graphics, etc. Maybe the special effects guys spawn these remakes by declaring they could do the exposions or the chases even better...but it certainly doesn’t help the acting.

May I point out that the biggest reason for that would be the advance in technology in the film industry.

I have to agree with you there. Just about every MST3K “remake” was superior to the original. That was the whole point, of course.

Russell Crowe’s (2007) 3:10 to Yuma was a pseudo-gay S&M leather fantasy. Where as Glenn Ford/Van Heflin’s (1957) is a classic moral western.

Godfather II

That would fall under the category of a SEQUEL rather than a remake being better than the original, would it not?

But in that account, I would agree. And I can think of a few more of those.

We are talking remakes here not sequels. Like if someone makes a new “Rocky” movie not staring Stalone, not Rocky 2, 3, 4, 7, 22, etc.

Would that be the remake of the TV show, “The Biggest Loser”?

Parent Trap. The 1998 Linsey Logan version is better than the 1961 Hayley Mills version, although Mills is overall a better actress than Logan sadly turned out to be.

BIG bump on “The Thing”.

Original was nothing special. The remake was ‘creep you out twenty years later’ awesome.
