Earthquake in Central Oklahoma
Red Dirt Report ^ | October 13, 2010 | Andrew W. Griffin

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Did you feel the earth shake at about 9:06 this morning? Well, reports are coming in and it appears that a minor earthquake did roll through the Oklahoma City area this morning. A 4.5 earthquake is what local news reports are saying.

We here at Red Dirt Report, here in mid-Oklahoma City, certainly felt it, noticing that the cats were startled and one fell off a table. What is interesting is that your Red Dirt Reporter has been predicting an earthquake in our area for a couple of weeks. I say that because I have noticed a number of "lost pets" signs tacked on poles. Some time ago I had heard that pets start "disappearing" - as our kitten did a few weeks ago - prior to earthquake activity.

There is as likely to be earthquakes in Oklahoma, as there is to be an Amish person with a cell phone.

I’m waiting with bated breath for the next Lazism (and the next Oklahoma earthquake).

Ha!

Look Who's Talking - The Amish are famous for shunning technology. But their secret love affair with the cell phone is causing an uproar.

Keep Tryin!

Yeah, I remember reading a book some years back that stated the earthquake of 1811/12 was so strong, it rang church bells in DC.

Oh come on. There’s as likely to be an Amish with a cell phone, as there is to be a car fueled by compressed air.

There’s as likely to be a new Lazism, as there is to be a white tomato. Just can’t happen.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1812_New_Madrid_earthquake

Some sections of the Mississippi River appeared to run backward for a short time.[2] Sand blows were common throughout the area, and can still be seen from the air in cultivated fields. The shockwaves propagated efficiently through midwestern bedrock. Residents as far away as Pittsburgh and Norfolk were awakened by intense shaking.[4] Church bells were reported to ring as far as Boston, Massachusetts and York, Ontario (now Toronto) and sidewalks were reported to have been cracked and broken in Washington, D.C.[5] There were also reports of toppled chimneys in Maine.[citation needed]
Eliza Bryan[6] in New Madrid, Territory of Missouri, wrote the following eyewitness account in March, 1812.
On the 16th of December, 1811, about two o’clock, a.m., we were visited by a violent shock of an earthquake, accompanied by a very awful noise resembling loud but distant thunder, but more hoarse and vibrating, which was followed in a few minutes by the complete saturation of the atmosphere, with sulphurious vapor, causing total darkness. The screams of the affrighted inhabitants running to and fro, not knowing where to go, or what to do — the cries of the fowls and beasts of every species — the cracking of trees falling, and the roaring of the Mississippi — the current of which was retrograde for a few minutes, owing as is supposed, to an irruption in its bed — formed a scene truly horrible.
The Shaker diarist Samuel Swan McClelland described the effects of the earthquake on the Shaker settlement at West Union (Busro), Indiana, where the earthquakes contributed to the temporary abandonment of the westernmost Shaker community.[7]

I see you've met my step-father! (ok, not really compressed air...)

Time to apply the rule of holes: You’re in one. Quit digging...

Unless you’re trying to be humorous, you were maybe at first, but now: EPIC FAIL!

I wish it was true, but saying there are earthquakes in Oklahoma is a lot like saying you can grow strawberries in Punjab.

That was one heck of an earthquake. I cannot imagine what kind of power that thing had. Imagine what one that powerful would do these days?

It would be hugh. And series. Beebers everywhere would be stunned. And maybe Laz can add more witticisms after his shower...

Now back to reality... It would worse than any disaster seen in history to date in this country. Providing services and relief is on the radar screen of the CERT group I volunteer on. It really is a serious thing.
