I need to put gas in my dad's 1996 Chevy Caprice. He's in the hospital for a short stay. My brother drove my dad's car and tried to put gas in the car but could not figure out how to unlock the cap. We tried the ignition and trunk keys, and have not seen another special Chevy key for the gas cap. My dad (he's 88) is on meds that make him a little goofy so he can't tell us how to do it.
I am logged in; my beber is on stune; my sister gave the moose the cheese; and I'll go shower.
WHAT key unlocks the blasted gas cap?
Nope, that is available on Jeep Cherokee's only. ; )
LOL
>> Pop the cap.. put a rag in it..<<
LOL You could be a redneck.
If you have a decent grip, compress the cap at two opposing points on the side of the cap and twist. I haven’t encountered one yet that wouldn’t come off.
Thanks guys. My bro found the key marked “gas” on the other key ring.
G’nite all.
Because your father is not well, I'll refrain from my typical snarky behavior. You might call around to the various auto parts dealers (such as NAPA); they've likely had customers lose a locking gas cap key.
You might also go to the locksmith and describe your dilema. Through the years, I've had plenty of professionals offer advice and the use of tools rather than gouge me with an outrageous labor fee.
Good luck, God bless, and prayers up for your father.
I don't like screwdrivers. Will a single-malt suffice?
That’s great news. May you also have great news concerning your father.
Unheard of!!!
Need more info. Was the gas cap made in THAILAND?
Oh, c’mon, there’s got to be a lever next to the one that pops the trunk open.
If'n it ain't on the key ring you have, look for his spare keys or the house keys. Otherwise, it's likely in the vehicle somewhere.
Choose wisely young jedi. It could be a trap.
My 88 year old wanted me to put a lock on her door because she thought her 94 year old brother was going into her room to steal her money.
She called me a couple of days later to tell me she could not find the key, and i could I get another one. Of course, I have four of them because I knew this was going to happen.
So I go over to the house and when i give her the new key, I see that the old key is on the little spiral band around her wrist. When I asked her when and where she found the old key, she looks at her wrist in complete surprise: Where did that come from?
They are 88. The key could be anywhere. Or wrapped around his wrist. While part of me is frustrated, the other part of me kind of looks forward to the day when everything has the ability to surprise me again.
A Sawzall would work.
Solved my problem is less than 5 seconds.
