My uncle, who I lost in July, was a paradox.
A war hating flaming pot-smoking liberal who was also a brilliant military historian from WWI to present day.
And I do mean brilliant. From dreadnoughts to tanks, planes, battles, tactics, etc..
He amassed a 1000+ piece collection of military models and knew the history behind each of them.
I saw CSN with him and will never forget that concert.

Amazing. Some part of The Greatest Generation must have rubbed off on him. I can't explain that any other way. His aversion to war and his peacenik sensibilities does make sense in a sort of non-intuitive way, given all that he knew about war armaments.
Sounds like he was an interesting fellow.
