A Morristown funeral home owner said his daughter drove off an armed man during a robbery of the family business by throwing empty urns at his head. Police said 32-year-old Teresa Mayes was opening Mayes Family Services on Friday morning and found a man armed with a knife waiting for her.
Her father, Buddy Mayes, told The Knoxville News Sentinel that the robber demanded money and she responded by throwing urns from a display. He said one of them obviously landed because the urn was smashed.
The man got away with some cash, but his daughter was not injured.
Mayes said the man may not have realized it was a funeral home, saying "a robbery is a little unusual for us."
I wonder if any were Grecian urns?
If you rob a funeral home....you urn a broken head.
If you rob a funeral home, you must be a real ash...
For the thief, it was a futile undertaking...
He got away with some hard-urned cash.
Bury funny.
It seems like Knoxville is becoming more and more dangerous.
Stick to the graveyard robbing. The occupants never fight back but don’t try it on election day when they get up to vote for Dems.
There’s gotta be a stiff joke in there somewhere...
Amazing, a whole hour and no one said “Never bring a knife to an urn fight.”
These puns are killing me.
I hope none broke in half - that could be splittin heirs.
And I’ll bet she backed him right into a coroner, all the while screaming “#$@% you and the hearse you rode in on!”
(Did they say if it was afternoon or mourning?)
I’m laughing so hard I’m coffin.
I hope this isn’t the ushering in of a new era.
Please let one of the guys in the urns have been a cop in life....
Seems like a trenchant response to a grave situation.
