In Power Divided is Power Checked, Lewis reminds us that the concept of states rights, as bequeathed by the Founding Fathers to a grateful nation, was about a constitutional framework intended to limit the missteps of government and provide the greatest amount of freedom and decision-making power to the citizens of the several states. He defines the essence of our constitutional republic and highlights the legal history of the relationship between the states and the federal government.
Lewis sounds the alarm for states rights and offers a way out of the constitutional malaise the nation finds itself in. And, if his prescription for returning power to the states seems radical, Lewis would argue that this is only because we are unaware of just how far America has drifted from our limited government tradition. He calls upon us to understand what it means to live in America, recognize how fragile our republic has become, reclaim our tradition, and in doing so, reclaim our freedom.

JMO, but he'll have to get in line. Do we have to buy the book to find out what his solution/s is/are? After some pretty serious discussons on this forum over the last year and a half or so I think we've pretty much decided the solution to be a simple, but not easy one: We The People have GOT to wake up and put the federal leviathan back in its Constitutional cage. The means and methods, not to mention the major disruptions likely to be involved are the sticky wicket and run the gamut from "we can work it all out at the ballot box to taking up arms and storming the Bastille".
For my part, I'm anxiously waiting to see what November brings. I think we'll have a better idea about the direction of the country then and will probably put a narrower focus on our options.
A ~ping~ for any of the group that might be interested in the book or have additional insights re our options.
Thanks for the ping. Jason Lewis is/was a local guy and board op who filled in a couple of times and now has his own radio show

The election will bring only a little change. The Dems, elites and Muslims still control Tv and forget the “Fox is our friends” BS. ALL TV is bad.
Columns are being written that “wealthier people and business will loosen their capital to create new jobs.”
“It ain’t gonna” happen until he is removed or impeached.
You can control the house and maybe the senate but they still control TV, the white hut plus the islamified intel community and govt agencies.
That about sums it up, unless the lame duck is actually a vulture.
Maybe we can get a book review from someone shortly to see if he’s just trying to cash in on a movement or if he’s really got something new to offer.
It aint gonna happen until he is removed or impeached.
I presume you're fingering "the one"? Is that the answer to our problems? Simple as that? I believe he's just the point man for a lot more going on in the shadow government. None of which would matter of course if we can restrain the beast and put it back in its cage. It's entirely possible the recent defections and rumors of defections may be a sign that some in his inner circle sees his star plunging back to earth.
That could be problematic but if the Dims have a working synapse left in their little socialist brains they'll avoid the temptation to ram through anything else that smacks of collectivism and nanny state governance. It would likely be their demise and they probably know it. In any case we'll need to stay on our toes to make sure as best we can that Pubbies understand the sleeping giant is shaking out the cobwebs and ain't gonna put up with any more big government nonsense. And not only that, but begin to roll back much of the foolishness now in place.
“For my part, I’m anxiously waiting to see what November brings. I think we’ll have a better idea about the direction of the country then and will probably put a narrower focus on our options.”
I think that most of us here want a change in direction. The leviathon government apparatus has tremendous inertia. The people we elect and how true to their convictions they remain will do much to check it.
Congress still has the power of the purse. No matter what 0bambi submits as a budget, and assuming we gain control of the House, the newly elected will have to defund much of the budget. Zero dollars to DeathCare, Departments of Energy and Education and strip EPA of legslative powers.
It’s a tall order; but it must be done. Or we will have “narrower options”.
When my state starts to form regiments of infantry, I’ll take this seriously.....
Re: the November elections —
I hope we all understand that all eyes must not be on Washington.
State elections are extremely important for two reasons: we need state lawmakers on our side to oversee congressional redistricting and to stand up to the feds on states’ rights issues.
he was writing this before P-BO came to power and preaching the 10th for years.
No the elites also control TV - ALL of it. There is also Saudi money or deals at all the TV networks. Americans traded liberty for a TV clicker. FOx is no better.
It is my personal opinion that we're already in "4th" Box" territory. Soap, Ballot, and Jury boxes have been completely ineffectual in reversing the current trend towards tyranny. Even Reagan was just a slow down and not a reversal.
No disagreement here.
Well that would certainly give everyone a heads up to be sure. But before it comes to blows there is still a lot a committed electorate and a few committed States can accomplish. We should be patient enough to exhaust other options first, no? I mean, we don't want to be labelled as radical knuckle draggin' Neanderthals by the Dims and the dinomedia now do we??? I know it hurts my feelings - NOT. For now at least, we seem to be moving in the right direction. We The People are stirring from our slumber and that's encouraging.
A huge question is this: Will we oldsters be willing to suck it up and concede entitlements such as SS, Medicare, Medicaid, prescription drugs, not to mention gov't pensions is stealing from our kids and grandkids and will backrupt the country REGARDLESS of what else we might be able to do?
It would probably help but given the state of the states and their dependency on feral $$$'s confiscated from the taxpayers and doled out by the federales to favored regions and favored groups will not be fixed any time soon. Now repealing the 16th??? Which MANY argue was never lawfully ratified in the first place but I dunno about that.
