EAST GREENWICH, R.I.- Firefighters in East Greenwich, R.I., organized a horse trailer as a temporary home for an 18-foot Burmese python they carried from a burning building.
Acting Fire Chief Peter Henrikson described the python as the largest snake he has ever seen. He said two firefighters were needed to make the rescue, although he kept his distance because he does not like snakes.
"It was 18 feet long and, at the center, it was as big as a Frisbee," he told The Providence Journal.
Firefighters learned the snake was on the premises when they arrived at Douglas St. Jean's burning house early Monday. St. Jean was outside with two dogs and a cat and told the firefighters the python was still inside in a cage inside.
"He told us it was docile," Henrikson said. "It creeped me right out."
Firefighters tried to stow the snake in a recycling bin, but it would not fit. So they brought a horse trailer.
Investigators said the fire started near a wood stove.

Must have paid his $75
Haha!
Now it is known what happened to all the stray dogs & cats in the neighborhood.
“Must have paid his $75”
You beat me by just a minute!!
All I can see is Pee Wee Herman running out of the pet store on fire with two handfuls of little grass snakes!
Not true. Some snakes are docile by nature, whereas others will strike at almost anything. My daughter has a 4 ft. ball python that is sweet as pie.
OTOH, I once had a yellow rat snake that was the meanest critter you could imagine. It would strike at the glass in the cage if you came anywhere near it, and absolutely could not be handled without biting. It had nothing to do with whether or not he was hungry. Some snakes are just way more aggressive than others.

I know some snakes are agressive but pythons pretty much are the most lethargic creatures alive until they get hungry, well not counting teenagers,
