Brian Eno--The Album is Warm Jets and the song is Baby's On Fire. Searing guitar solo from an unexpected source. Now granted there are many, many excellent guitar solos out there, including Maggot Brain by the Funkedelics, as well as from more "traditional" guitarists like SRV, Santana and a whole host of others.
But you really want to hear something--find the Rolling Stones playing in Hawaii 1966, the last show of their US tour. Brian Jones on Satisfaction when the song was till fresh will tear into you and leave you in a slobbering heap on the floor. You will then remember why the Rolling Stones were tagged the "Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World"
Where do you find that track? Search the net, It was recorded by KPOI Radio at the time.

An average Frank Zappa guitar solo blows away most of those.

Try the Allmans in the 1970 period. There is a lot of live stuff out there on the net. Dreams, Elizabeth Reed, etc....

Sorry but you two are barking up the wrong tree.
The SOLO in ‘My Sharona’ is excellent - creative, varied and frenzied. So good they even did a key change and a different rhythm figure for it!
Unfortunately, they did a horrid job of editing the full-length track down for radio purposes and many people have not heard the proper solo in its entirety.

He wrote a couple of great songs, “Holiday Road” and “Dancin’ Across the U.S.A.”, for National Lampoon’s Vacation but they’re hard to find.
