I challenge anyone to play the leads on Chains of Misery, Judas Be My Guide or Weekend Warrior by Iron Maiden. Nobody can match Dave Murray in my eyes.
“My mama talkin’ to me tell me how to live...”
Scatterbrain has an excellent version of this.
It was a good try though!!
Wow good to see “Heart Breaker” by Led Zeppelin on the all time top 25 list. That was one of the first songs I was able to work out on a guitar by ear alone rhythm and solo. I still get a thrill playing it live as we lead into another song. It really works up the crowd.
In terms of rock, I don’t agree with this. Tony Iommi, Ritchie Blackmore, where are they? These are just two artists I am familiar with. Iommi in particular, when you consider his body of work with the osbourne/butler/ward version, with Ronnie Dio, and with tony martin (ignoring ian gillan and etc.), has a lot of publish tracks I think are superior to casey;s top 40.
They are widely regarded as very talented or among the most talented hard rock guitarists, yet not present on this per-track list.

(this is killer solo)
I could list a ton of more that should have been on the list but these are the ones that inspired me the most to learn to play better everyday after school.
Hope you enjoy the live cuts these are always the most interesting for me because the bands will take risks that they would not necessarily do in the studio and for me are more inspiring to work out.
Johnny Winter holds 4 of the 6 slots in my car's CD changer. There isn't a list out there that matters more than that!
The entire album, "Twelve Dreams of Dr. Sardonicus" is a masterpiece.
No mention of Mike Bloomfield or Steven Stills...some list.
Thanks. I’ll listen to them.
It is one of those idiosyncrasies of genius... Freddie King was the instrument, the guitar is just an accessory...
David Allen Coe with Pantera...

How about some of Steve Miller's work? how about the Outlaws "Green Grass and High Tides"? Molly Hatchet's rendition of the Allman s "Dreams"?
I could go on and on.... Boy does this list suck...
I saw him a couple of times at the Earl of Old Town during the 70's. I've seen a lot of good shows over the years - Bob Seger, the Dead, Jimmy Buffet - and for quality of music and sheer entertainment, Goodman topped them all.
Look up "Steve Goodman: Facing the Music" by Clay Eals for the definitive Goodman biography.
Alex is a very underrated guitarist.
I always thought that one of the best was in “Valerie” by the Monkees ...
bfl
Actually, that makes as much sense as most of the selections. No Chet Atkins or Les Paul? This survey must have been taken among teeny boppers.
You figured the solo out by ear — such a fast scramble of notes? Did you slow it down?
Listen to some of his work on “Layla” and ‘I Looked away” with Clapton. Nice stuff.
No mention of Clapton’s solo on “Something” by The Beatles. Too bad.
