Libertarians = Small gov. democrats? Or what? (vanity)
www.lp.org | Oct. 4th, 2010 | Celtic Cross

Recently, I was considering becoming a member of the Libertarian Party. I admit I knew little about the party, except that they are for smaller government. I visited their website, and this is what I found...

This, regarding immigration.

The party's views of gay unions and abortion are as follows;

"Sexual orientation, preference, gender, or gender identity should have no impact on the government's treatment of individuals, such as in current marriage, child custody, adoption, immigration or military service laws. Government does not have the authority to define, license or restrict personal relationships. Consenting adults should be free to choose their own sexual practices and personal relationships."

"Recognizing that abortion is a sensitive issue and that people can hold good-faith views on all sides, we believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration."

I know that there are many libertarians here on FR, and I would appreciate it if they weighed in. How can you affiliate yourselves with a party that at least appears to disagree with many basic conservative principles?

Why don't you show me where any of them spoke against STATE laws against sodomy? Show me where they clearly said perversion was a right.

Yeah, I can just see Madison or Jefferson speak out against a Massachusetts law in a forum where they're trying to establish a federal government with limited, specifically-enumerated powers. That would be brilliant.

Do you even bother to read what you post, or are you just throwing spaghetti at the wall?

I said that Commies and Marxists infiltrated government, academia and the MSM and you replied negatively.

Are you sure you aren't mixing me up with someone else? I have never said anything of the sort.

And yet they completely failed to include any morality statues in the Constitution

Again, YOU brought up the Constitution. My post 125 cited Virginia's law. State law. And no Founder spoke out against the state laws. They were on the books until the 70's when Commies started getting them struck down.

Show me where they clearly said having a blue house was a right.

Again, you are the one screaming Constitutional rights when I cite a state law. Homosexuality has always been against the law. And the Founders agreed.

People are no better than animals?!

People are animals. We certainly aren't plants. We have something most animals don't, sentience and reason. This sets us apart.

I stated the Founders were in agreement with sodomy laws.

And you brought up the gays using the Courts and the FedGov to push their agenda. If that power wasn't there to begin with, there'd be nothing they could do to push their agenda.

They are no rights for deviancy.

There's no right to eat a Snicker's either. Are you SURE you know how this whole Constitution thing was supposed to work?

your time would be better served by developing an ability to present a logical argument.

I have done that. There have been sodomy laws on states law the books since the 1700's. The Founders had no problem with them. I have stated that in other posts since post 125.

Margaret Sanger was hateful bigot and the MSM still doesn’t tell the truth about her and PP.

Jefferson was Governor of Virginia when the sodomy laws were on the books. And the Founders had plenty to say about government at all levels.

So you think homosexuals should have rights?

I grew up in a military family. I know many with military experience. I used my two sub-guys as examples, since those are particularly close quarters to be in with someone you don’t care for. If they can deal with it, so can others in regular barracks.

I know a number of homosexuals & they don’t have any agenda beyond wanting to be left alone to live their lives as they choose without being harassed.

Yes, there are extreme left-wing types with agendas, but we’re always going to be fighting them. Don’t lump them all together.

Freedom - if I want it for myself, I have to allow it for others.

Me, Post 139:No one gave them anything. Commies and Marxists infiltrated the government, academia and the MSM.

Your Post 141

Temperance Movement. Cotten Mather. Nancy Reagan and "Just say No". Don't give me that BS.

The fact remains that if Comstock hadn't gotten the federal government involved in trying to restrict access to contraceptives over moral issues (NOT the federal government's concern, and should have been left to the States, and well enough alone by the federal government), it's questionable whether anyone would even recognize her name today.

I'm not aware of any such thing, I do know that 200 years ago the lynch crowd for someone pushing the homosexual agenda, abortion, decadence, and so on, would have been very large. Being incredibly, religiously conservative is how we kept the government small.

Government growth and libertarian/leftist discovery of new "rights" seem to have gone hand in hand for the last 60 years plus.

“Ultimately, the tragic consequence of the libertarian mentality is that it guarantees the left’s victory in the battle for civilization.”

They are not. People reason and have choice. Animals do not.

And you brought up the gays using the Courts and the FedGov to push their agenda. If that power wasn't there to begin with, there'd be nothing they could do to push their agenda.

Yes. I did. What's your point? I also said in 134, 135 and 139 that there have been power grabs. I also stated in 135 that 38 STATES had banned homosexual marriage.

Are you SURE you know how this whole Constitution thing was supposed to work?

Back to the original point. The Founders, the men that wrote the Constitution, did not back perversion and did not speak out against state sodomy laws as being unConstitutional. Even when they were Governor of Virginia.

I don’t question it. She liked Hitler and intended to stamp out the Blacks through legal murder. PP was a big deal in the 40’s and those shriveled prunes went door to door.

That isn't a denial that the Commies and gays aren't infiltrating the government. It's just pointing out that they aren't the only ones, currently or in the past, abusing Federal power.

Both sides are wrong. You'll note I also said that because both sides do this, mission creep will continue unabated. Neither side will give up power.

Again with the non sequitur.

Keep spewing those talking points! They do your credibility more damage than anyone else.

The Communist Takeover Of America - 45 Declared Goals

30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the "common man."

I’m not worried about the people that share values with the Founders. I worry about Commies and Marxists because they share NOTHING with the Founders.

People are not animals.

Again with the non sequitur.

You scream that you want a Constitutional government and then work to discredit that very premise.

I am not running in circles with you. What you REALLY want is anarchy. If it feels good, do it is not a political philosophy. And you do not respect the Founders moral fiber. You really are a liberaltarian.

Have a nice day.

Then you ought to agree that Comstock should have left well enough alone, and learn from it.
