Bang! Pow! '60s-Style Batmobile Replicas for Sale by Claudine Zap September 28, 2010
DC Comics has officially licensed Fiberglass Freaks to re-create, down to the flame throwers (working, natch), the futuristic car that the Caped Crusader drove in the 1960s TV series.
For $150,000, you too could keep Gotham City safe. Or at least look really, really cool while sitting in traffic. Each car frame is built around a 1970s Lincoln Town Car. And only eight of these hand-crafted beauties roll off the factory floor each year. Company founder Mark Racop has been perfecting the design pretty much his entire life, way before he got the official go-ahead. According to his website, the Batmobile-obsessive fell in love with the car from the show at the tender age of two. The cars are road-ready and come equipped with a GM 350 crate engine, Radir wheels with custom bat spinners, and a paint job only a superhero wanna-be could love. And need we mention the bat-wing shaped tail fins? This car gives new meaning to joy ride.

Working flamethrowers? Now you’re talking!
Knight Rider.....knew a guy who spent over a $100.000 updating his 82 firebird with all sorts of gadgets, including Kitt’S voice.......when he finally got where he wanted....Kitt became a Mustang....
Dangit! Now I find out about it.
Always a day late and a dollar short!
Probably would handle like crap on our dirt roads, anyway.
PS-anyone else think the reporters last name is weirdly appropriate?
Or, for a few dollars more, you could BE really, really cool while flying around traffic.
My neighbor owns one of the original six that were built on a 1960 Mercury concept car frame. He shows it at car shows, drives it in local parades and loans it out for publicity shows. He recently loaned it to the Cincinnati bengals so they could do a photo shoot with T.O. and Ocho Cinco who have started calling themselves “Batman and Robin”. It is an amazingly cool vehicle. He treats it like it was made of crystal and gold.
I prefer the retro look of my 1922 flatbed truck my uncle Jed gave me.
While driving around liberal Austin, I can show the lefties how well the so-called ‘summer of recovery’ has worked out for us working class folks.
Cool cars on kids shows were a trend. And the demand for models of them went through the roof. I had the Monkee mobile model myself. Do kids even get into making car models any more?
Bat Mobile
Monkee Mobile
Munster Mobile
I knew the original ‘60’s Batmobile was a facelifted Ford concept car, but I didn’t know there were six of them.
They had to have back-ups in case of damage and some of them were modified for specific types of shots. For example, one was covered in black batting (crushed felt) for night shots to prevent the reflection of the lights and cameras in the paint.
Kept in the secret garage!
A guy would have to be a real dipstick to drive a production model of this around.
Looks pretty good...
“Bat Mobile Monkee Mobile Munster Mobile”
Herbie the love bug?
The perfect accessory to deal with those pesky tailgaters
