SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- California officials on Wednesday called off the scheduled execution of a convicted murderer after setbacks in federal and state courts.

The attorney general's office said in a court filing that it can no longer proceed with the lethal injection of Albert Greenwood Brown at 9 p.m. Thursday.

It would have been California's first execution since 2006.

"I'm relieved," said John Grele, one of Brown's attorneys. "This was a hastily designed plan."

The announcement came after a California Supreme Court ruling made Friday the earliest possible day the state could execute Brown. But by then, the state's entire supply of a drug used during lethal injections would have expired....

Thanks Arnold. Here’s just one more failure as governor. It was you who delayed his execution earlier this week simply so that his attorneys could have a chance for another appeal. If it were not for your dumb move Arnold, this guy would have been executed already. Now, it will be several months, if ever, before this guy is executed.

Back in the old days the citizenry would simply have broken into the prison and lynch the SOB. One dirtbag + one rope + one tree = zero problem. Ah...progress.

It really doesn’t matter ... G-d has a special place in Hell all picked out for him ... he’ll be showing up there eventually.

From what I read in the article, one judge, Fogel, has halted all executions in CA for 4 years. The unnamed attorney general who was trying to rush through the execution is Jerry Brown. He’s running for governor, and away from Justice Rose Bird. The perp’s murder dates to the last time Brown was governor, in 1982.

I think that’s the what their arguing on appeal,if you enforce the death penalty you would put his life at risk! Seriously though with Arnold we see the result of we can’t run a real conservative they can’t win! We need someone who can appeal to the independent voter in these (Name reason north east corridor, rust belt, west coast etc). Run the conservative candidates anyway even if it’s Massachusetts or California that way the voters have a clear choice rather than dud or dud lite.

He’s spent thirty years on death row and never publicly repented or said he was sorry. All’s he’s been doing is trying to get out of having justice done ...

That may be true but there is always hope that he will repent.

It makes no difference when only if it happens.

I’m just saying that he’s been on death row for thirty years so you figure maybe he might have felt some remorse? When you’re staring eternity in the face you’re liable to say anything to mitigate the circumstances ... I believe the thief on the cross >was< sincere ... this guy, not so much. But then, who am I to judge ....
