Jessica Olmstead has no problem staring down wild animals. The 17-year-old Harper Creek High School senior has taken up one of nature's oldest, and possibly most dangerous sports, hunting.
In the middle of August, Olmstead and her father, Tim, took a hunting trip up to Oba, Ontario, Canada, where the high school senior shot down a bear more than twice her size.
"When I go out hunting, it's really exciting," Olmstead said. "Whenever I see a bear I just want to go at it. When you're hunting, your heart is racing, your blood is pumping, and you feel that adrenaline rush. I really love to hunt."
Olmstead killed a 448 lb. black bear with a Matthews Passion bow and arrow set, designed for women, from a little over 16 yards away.
"The bear was the first animal I killed with the bow," Olmstead said. "As soon as my dad got it for me I was immediately comfortable and I was ready to use it the next day."

...yet over and over we have posts of dogs killed by chainsaws, and an never-ending supply of animal-abuse stories... Liar.
Corrupt, infiltrating, liberal liar.

Very good for her. My 25 year old niece shot her second bear a week ago. It field dressed at 431 pounds, so it was over 500 live weight. She had to belly crawl to within 20 feet of it because it was fighting the dogs in very thick cover. She shot it with her 30-06. She is blond, pretty, single, and a serious Christian young woman.
I have been waiting for an email from her to post the whole story, but this seemed topical.

Are your cats indoor cats or outdoor cats? Man is a natural hunter. Nature is red in tooth and claw. Man almost always kills animals more humanely than the demise that they meet naturally.
I feel for your sensitivity. To go through life with that level of empathy for every living creature must be very painful.

And one heck a a fine shot. It ain’t easy to take that breath before you fire. The time and preparation isn’t for the faint of heart. Especially a 500lb black. I’ve never tried it.

Good hunters must have a certain empathy with their prey. It is hard to hunt well unless you have an understanding of your prey's motivations. A great many hunters that I know have this sort of empathy, and they know that life and death are inseparable in the natural world. A respect for your prey is a serious part of most hunters mindset. Their is no satisfaction or triumph in outwitting prey for which you have no respect. That is merely like the workings of a slaughterhouse. It may be necessary, but it is not satisfying.
I know this will sound rather alien to you, but it is a serious part of hunting culture in the west.

You believe what I said to you was harsh and it was.
You went off on everyone on this thread and all you have to back it up is emotion.
Being a conservative is more than voting. You can have beliefs and and convey them in a manner without belittling others.

To take down a bear with a bow and arrow is not easy and not for the faint of heart...You just stay in the city where you are comfortable....do you eat steak?....

If you had ever tracked a wounded bear through a swamp, you would realize you were BOTH “in the game.”
