What I like about the Samsung is the Home Theater Receiver accepts USB thumb drives with AVI video files...much easier than DVDs for home videos...and the sound is superb. This is the kind of stuff I need to hear about. We have a young athlete and take a bunch of HD video. Great stuff, guys, thanks so much.

The Visio is a pretty good TV for the money. Walmart and Sams Club both have them.
I’ve had a Panasonic HDTV for a few years and like it.
Can you get sound through your auxiliary auto or headphone jack (if you have one)???
If so, you could just connect it to a stereo system or home theater surround sound system and use that to control the sound volume.

Do NOT buy any of the follow brands Panaphonic, Magnetbox, and Sorny?
Sites like http://www.pricegrabber.com/ will let compare prices at the different stores including real stores.

Pay attention to inputs and be sure it will function as a PC monitor.
The age of internet TV is here and will increasingly deliver programming over the life of your new TV.

Hubby bought it about 10 years ago plus all of the surround stuff. I have 2 large black speakers which are about 5’ tall, 2 more about 4’, sub woofers, etc. I have given my grandson the surround stuff. Hubby died and I have not had it plugged in since then. It was just in my way. Hubby would turn the tv to the Golf channel, put 5 cds in the player, turn the tv sound down and turn the music up looooooooud. I would have to go the bedroom and close the door and I could still hear that. It has been a very good tv.

Plasma uses way more energy and has a shorter lifespan.

I still haven’t even bought my first HDTV yet. And right now, I sure don’t want to help the Obama economy

I have one TV but it’s pre digital, I don’t have cable, and I never bought a converter box. And my VHS player quit working awhile back so I can’t even watch my old vhs tapes anymore.

Maybe I do have something useful to add:
Make sure it has a VGA port so you can use it as a monitor.
Not all of them did just a couple years ago.

I have Samsungs and a Sharp. Love them all, but the Sharp is a better picture. My dream LCD is the 65” Sharp.
I recently picked up a 27” Samsung (very nice LCD retailing for around $400) for $175 on Ebay because it had a small crack in the bezel. Refurbished and warranted and less than 1/2 price.

Buy or borrow a used TV for a couple of months, and wait for Black Friday.
