Amazing,,,, While it’s nearly impossible to see the German view in WWII, in WWI,,, They were almost the opposite of the villian they were cast as. If i was a modern German, i wouldn’t like paying anyone for anything havving to do with WWI.

Im curious if the USA is paying anything equally ridiculous that we are generally unaware of?

The WWI Imperial Germans were not Nazis, but they weren’t angels either.

Well, we're still paying for the commies left over after not rolling on through Soviet Russia after wiping out the Nazis.

Germany in WWI was no more guilty of starting that war than any of the other participants. In fact if blame can be fixed Austria-Hungary is probably most culpable, but their empire was pretty much destroyed & germany with its deeper pockets was left.

The unintended consequences of their treatment afterwards is well known.

They didn't have to be villainous or belligerent to be responsible for paying the costs of the war; they just had to be the vanquished.

Germans were not expected to “like” it.

The vanquished has traditionally been expected to bear the brunt of the expense the victor went through in kicking the vanquished’s buttocks. But as Churchill pointed out, long term payment plans have a way of making another war inevitable: he recommended a one time rip off of all mobile property - and call it a day.

Well remember that it is only in the last decade that we "stopped" paying a "soak the rich" telephone tax that was established to pay for the Spanish-American War.

Germany was pushing for a war in Europe long before WWI broke out. After consolidating as a single nation the German government pursued policies of aggressive imperialism and building militarism designed to lead to conflict in Europe.

Their conduct of the war itself featured nearly every aspect of the same behavior as in WWII, albeit on a lesser scale, including invading neutral countries, terrorizing the population, concentration camps, etc.

I’ve never really been able to figure out what WWI was all about, besides the interlocking alliances, and the striped-pants, top-hatted diplomats f*in up and causing a conflagration, which I’m afraid is about to be repeated today. But as for any real cause, any real hatred, can’t figure it out.
