However, I'd love to see some naysayers
view

respond to the conference

Quix,
Perhaps you remember this post I sent you on July 10th.
This is all a man made planned event that seems about to happen by demonically possessed people who are communists.

Even if some creature showed up in a spaceship I can clearly see how it would be a MAN MADE work of evil men trying to mislead people.

For example...

It’s fascinating, my FRiend.

In addition to the naysayers, people who you’ve posted to for years and years...it’s like the subject is taboo.

It’s too much for even the most opinionated among us it seems.

Hi Quix! Thanks for the ping; I'm just getting to this now as I wait at home to try to get my roof fixed.

As you may know, I've always been fascinated by UFO stories; I consider it a pet hobby of mine. As you may also know, I don't tend to take them very seriously; it's just entertainment for me. Although I do try to keep an open mind.

Speaking of my predilection for UFO stories, and keeping an open mind, I noticed another thread a couple of weeks ago, related to this one, announcing this press conference. It was of particular interest to me because a man by the name of James Carlson posted to you on September 16th of this year here. I bookmarked the post because I was interested to hear any other replies you may have had to his objections, any others other than the ones you initially posted.

Apparently since then Mr. Carlson has been banned, for reasons I don't know why, although I have pinged his screen name to this post should he return. I can't imagine he was banned for trying to sell his book, because his book is freely available online; there is no cost to download it. But I digress.

Of course, normally I wouldn't bother anyone with a question about a post from someone who's account has been banned or suspended. But the content of his initial post to you remains, and it remains unaddressed from what I have seen. I was curious:

1. Have you read what he posted to you back on Sept 16th, specifically the link to his online book about the incident mentioned in the press conference from Sept 28th? It can be found here. It seems to be a very detailed, highly documented and cited work. I do not see how the conclusions of falsity he draws about Hasting's and Salas' claims can be refuted.

2. To the point of refutation of falsity, specifically on page 10 of his work, he mentions that "[The Department of Defense] necessarily considers unidentified flying objects to be of unconfirmed national origin, so when they are mentioned in the course of an investigation of this sort on a base responsible for the targeting and firing of nuclear missiles, such rumors have to be accounted for. This was appropriately done in the course of the Echo Flight Incident investigation, and as the command history indicates, 'Rumors of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFO) around the area of Echo Flight during the time of fault were disproven.'10" (emphasis in the original). Note, reference "10" he cites here is from the source, "341st Strategic Missile Wing and 341st Combat Support Group HQ SAC DXIH 67-1865 (Command History, Vol. 1), p.32-34, & 38." Have you, or anyone, investigated this claim to determine if indeed, the official investigation concluded no outside influence interfered with the test flight of the missiles?

3. Page 10 of Mr. Carlson's work is of particular interest because it lays out the groundwork for a serious charge against Capt. Salas' claims, specifically that he was even there. Apparently Capt Salas has is own doubts, "I began to question if I was at Echo during the time of our incident since I knew I was assigned to the 490th Squadron, which did not have responsibility for Echo Flight." source: Salas, Robert L., "Minuteman Missiles Shutdown", Mutual UFO Network UFO Journal, January, 1997, No. 345, pp. 15-17, cont. 22, 23.

The paper Mr. Calrson authored then goes on to explain that it would be impossible, from a physical standpoint, for any outside source to cause electrical malfunction in just the launch control center, and not anywhere else. (Pages 351 onward), thus to posit a source of interference outside the facility, be it extraterrestrial in origin or not, would violate laws of physics.

As I mentioned previously, this paper is quite detailed, and indeed, the above are only a sampling of the numerous objections and supporting documents thereof that anyone can see by clicking the second link I provided.

It is unusual for anyone to put this much effort into debunking a UFO claim, and one may wonder, what is the motivation? Indeed, I have noted you question the motivation of "naysayers". However, if I may suggest, at least in this case, the motivation seems clear. By implication, if what Capt. Salas is claiming is true, then Mr. Carlson's father is/was involved in a coverup, thus, in this case, Mr. Carlson may feel (rightly I believe) that his father's good name is being besmirched by people like Capt. Salas and Mr. Hastings, presumably for the purposes of profit. Thus, it seems reasonable he (Mr. Carlson) would put this much effort into being a "naysayer". Perhaps this is the motivation behind many of the critics you and other UFO supporters receive on this site. After all, FR is a site where many people, past and present, have served in the military or have loved ones who have served, or are serving now. Thus, reports such as these, or really UFO claims in general, with associated claims of "military coverups" may engender feelings of hostility on the part of such FReepers.

Beyond that though, we are left with the claims and supporting documents Mr. Carlson presented in this case, and they seem quite convincing. This is, actually, my own experience when digging into UFO claims; I've found many, ultimately, to be based on shaky testimony and limited, questionable documentation. This is why it remains a hobby, entertainment to me. But again, I like to think I have an open mind which is why I'm bothering to post to you in the first place about this incident.

How do you respond to James Carlson's charges against Mr. Hastings and Capt. Salas?
