LONDON, - A Malaysian woman says she wants the United Nations to pick her as the first point of contact for aliens trying to communicate with Earth.
If she has her way, astrophysicist Mazlan Othman will be the person space aliens are referred to when they say "take me to your leader," The Guardian reported.
Othman is presently head of the U.N. Office for Outer Space Affairs, or Unoosa, and was expected to tell delegates about her plans at a Royal Society Conference in Buckinghamshire, England, next week, the report said.
In a recent talk Othman said, "The continued search for extraterrestrial communication, by several entities, sustains the hope that some day humankind will receive signals from extraterrestrials.
"When we do, we should have in place a coordinated response that takes into account all the sensitivities related to the subject," she said.
Her plan is to make Unoosa the coordinating body for alien encounters; U.N. scientific advisory committees will debate the proposal before it reaches the body's general assembly, the newspaper said.

I assume you are not joking.
That is roughly what a number of folks believe is no the near horizon.

No I'm not joking. It was the scariest dream I can remember having. What struck me in the dream was the odd realization, as I stood there looking up at these huge ships parked above the city, that in mere seconds, our "normal" template was wiped out, all its most pressing concerns up to those seconds, suddenly reduced to irrelevance; we could wish we only had such paltry problems as Obama or a late notice on the electric bill.

Quix, I hope your scale of "near" is so vast that "near" is 200 years from now! I so SO want for us to have these disputative UFO threads for the rest of our long lives, that 25 years from now, we're STILL sparring with the folks who think UFOs are all a bunch of hooey. I REALLY WANT THAT TO HAPPEN.
I recall that either during the dream, or in the waking moments following, still in a semi-dream state, I thought of the irony that you and I wouldn't be going to Free Republic to say, "I told you so!" Either because Free Republic wouldn't be accessible (I think that was the reason in the dream) or because at that point, neither you nor I would give a crap about saying, "I told you so" to anybody. And THAT thought, the jump to Free Republic, could have been what brought me to the relief of full wakefulness and the reassurance that it was just a dream and "normal" still existed.

I would PREFER THAT BY FAR, TOO.
. . . that such were well after my lifetime.
I’m convinced, utterly convinced, it’s not that far off whether that’s months to a few years.
Of course, some of us have thought it was less than 10 years off for 30 years.
Sigh.

A man was walking his dog and his dog took a dump on the side walk. The man bent over and was scooping up the poop just as aliens landed. They approached the man, watched him as he was scooping up the poop, turned to the dog and said Take us to your leader

Yet it is OBVIOUSLY
TONS AND TONS CLOSER NOW
than it even was a year ago in terms of the abundance of incidents and even the MSM chatter about such topics.
Only fools have failed to see that.
. . . totally blind, ignorant utter fools.

Correction -- I realize reading the post above that it looks like you were in the dream, Quix; you weren't. What I meant was that the realization came to me that folks like me, those who've made it clear that we think alien intelligent beings from other worlds in the universe who are or will be dabbling in human-earthly matters exist, and that poo-pooing UFO sightings and denying the possibility are the reactions of willfully blind and/or ignorant folks.

On a more serious note, things are close, I really think so ... conditioning then acceptance.
