DOSWELL, Va. -- In an era defined by a dispiriting war and a surreal Washington scandal, Secretariat gave Americans and their bruised psyche something to cheer about when the big thoroughbred captured the Triple Crown in 1973.
The racehorse considered by many to be the best ever and the housewife-turned-breeder who soared in a male-dominated sport are now coming to the big screen.
"Secretariat" has begun filming in Kentucky with Diane Lane portraying owner Penny Chenery and John Malkovich cast as trainer Lucien Laurin.
Mayhem Pictures, with the backing of Walt Disney Pictures, is producing "Secretariat." Mayhem's other uplifting sports-themed stories include "Miracle," about the 1980 U.S. Olympic ice hockey team, and "The Rookie" and "Invincible," both Walter Mitty tales.

Secretariat begins filming? The movie finished filming a long time ago, is about to be released, and some of my friends have already been to see it. They say it's great, by the way. The trailer looks excellent.

Yes, I know, it had begun filming as of the date of this article, but I didn’t see the movie being discussed anywhere on Free Republic, so I just grabbed this article.
Do you think you’ll see the movie?

I hope people remember what a great horse Secretariat was and go see this movie. The Belmont was a “man walks on the moon” moment for me. I can remember exactly were I was when Secretariat put a huge PERIOD! on his Triple Crown! Sen. Fred Thompson is also in it.

BTW, another movie this guy made was Miracle.
It was a great movie, one of the few that I’d consider not all “PC” - an American exceptionalism type movie. If Secretariat is the same, it’s going to be great.
I saw Secretariat race, unfortunately it was the one he lost. He was still beautiful. I wish I had the foresight to keep some of the betting tickets people threw on the ground after as a momento. They had only betting to win - place and show bets were disallowed.

The eloquence of irony that this movie of " Big Red " the wonder horse " comes out right before the November elections.
It kinda parallels the story of the Tea Party and the new movement going on in this country.

BIG RED .. the wonder horse.

Will Dana Bash or Contessa Brewer play the role of Secritariat?
