Mossberg 500 is a series of shotguns manufactured by O.F. Mossberg & Sons. The 500 series comprises widely varying models of hammerless, pump action repeaters, all of which share the same basic receiver and action, but differ in bore size, barrel length, choke options, magazine capacity, and "furniture" (stock and forearm) materials

I bought an 18 1/2 inch barrel and pistol grip for mine.
It sleeps next to me and we both feel safer with each other near by.
I kept the butt and original long barrel for skeet.
Fun to shoot.

I tend to gather the 16 and 20 gauges. The only 12 gauge auto I have is a Benelli Supersport.

A local dealer near me has something that looks an awful lot like that for sale with the blade on it - what is that?

Winchester 1897 (J.M. Browing design) Trench gun. Used in WWI.
There’s a Stevens trench gun at Ron’s these days, looks somewhat the same, but no hammer.

Winchester 1897 (J.M. Browing design) Trench gun. Used in WWI. I could have bought one of those for $100 from a guy going through a divorce. It's another one of those 'kick myself' things....

They no longer make it so I was glad to pay $400 for mine. The blade pictured is the old 16" Springfield bayonet

I bought a Chinese copy of the Winchester 97 trench gun. Still pretty stiff after about 50 rounds, but functions well. I read that the early Chinese guns were copied directly from a worn out 97 and had problems, so they went back to the factory part specs and solved the problems. That said, I would always grab a 590 or an 870.

Winchester 1897 (J.M. Browing design) Trench gun. Used in WWI.JW Krum in Rio Rancho has something that looks almost exactly like that, but I haven't asked about it, just admired the fact that there was a shotgun with a pokin' stick on the end of it. It appears to be for sale. I'm going to have to stop by and see what it is.

Nice. Now, how to approach the budget committee for approval of my next purchase...
I'm thinking flowers, a offer for me to take the kiddies off her hands for a month and doing the dishes once or twice ain't going to cut it.

I’d love to know how they wore out a ‘97. The Winchester factory had one that had over 250,000 rounds put through it.
