Perhaps senile dementia is increasing because LIFE EXPECTANCY has increased.
There is no treatment for dementia - only mind-numbing drugs and nursing/comfort CARE of these elderly, which used to be performed by younger family members.
Since women have worked outside the home and couples are having fewer children; there is a scarcity of family members to care for elderly grandparents at home.
In Asian society this may still occur but Western societies have abandoned *family* services for socialized cradle to grave tax-paid welfare.
This article points out how much tax money will be needed for adult home-care aides or the charming *warehouse care centers* of the future.

Reports from individual countries such as the UK suggest that dementia is one of the costliest illnesses and yet research and investment is at a far lower level than for other major illnesses. I guess it's too bad that you don't get dementia from sodomy...

It's only a matter of grant-driven research and time before we learn that there's no such thing as Alzheimer's. All of those who are so diagnosed are fakin' it. And they are not entitled to any more Medicare benefits.
