Happened upon it while searching for something else. Lurked, then signed up around the time of the 2000 election. Still remember those days. I still lurk quite a bit, but don’t post that much. Sometimes, it gets a bit much and I take a break. But, I always come back!

I was new to the internet in 2000 and found the Newsmax forum, where I signed up as Political Junkie. Over at the Newsmax forum, they talked about how Free Republic was much harsher on posters, so I started lurking here. After a few weeks (actually, the day after the 2000 election), I signed up as Political Junkie Too (Political Junkie had been taken, but never used). Shortly after moving to this forum, Newsmax shut down their own forum, leaving this the only game in town for me.
I've been here ever since.

I was listening to Michael Savage on the radio.
It was right after the 2000 Bush-Gore election. I was steamed to say the least. I couldn’t believe the liberals were trying to steal it.
A caller called in and mentioned FreeRepublic. Savage said something about the good work going on at FreeRepublic.
I checked out the site and fell in love.
Two days later I was protesting with other FReepers down Market Street in San Fran.

Clinton’s impeachment. Came here through Drudge. Was a long time lurker and signed up officially the day after 9/11. Left for a brief time during the heated infighting that went on here during the Republican presidential primaries. Couldn’t stay away.
