The Rove, O'Donnell Strategry (Shameless and Useless Vanity)
Vanity oh Vanity

Posted on 09/16/2010 9:46:36 AM PDT by mnehring

Like many of you, I am very concerned about the rumblings of the Republican power base, specifically Karl Rove. They seem to be sending some very negative messages towards Tea-Party candidates like O'Donnell. In addition what what we've seen, I believe they are floating negative comments to see how people react.

However, I have been thinking- is there a different strategy behind this?

First, about Rove- what do we know?

1. Unlike what he is portraying with O'Donnell, Rove has never had a problem working with candidates with baggage. The financial charges against O'Donnell are minuscule compared to the accusations against Bush.

2. Rove has, in the past, supported the under-dog Conservative over the establishment Republican. A great example of this is his early on support of Rubio even when common sense hinted Crist would walk away with it.

3. Rove is very much a state-by-state strategist, always working messages to how the state trends.

Some other things we know are:

4. Delaware is a very Blue state.

5. O'Donnell has massive grass-roots support, with independents trending towards her.

6. No one can deny the wave of the tea-party candidates recently.

With those thoughts- what if Rove has a completely different strategy.

1. He knows that O'Donnell is running in a blue state, so his strategy is to help position herself as not party of the Republican establishment but as an average person- thus appealing to more than just Republican voters but also disgruntled Dems.

2. He can't deny that a LOT of the tea-party movement is against the establishment. By making her appear to be an anti-establishment with a common opponent of both Establishment Republicans and Democrats- it fires up the tea-party and average Joe base behind her. No one can deny that this opposition to her by the establishment has fired up the base- look at her donations in the past two days.

3. Rove and Rush are close friends. Before this primary, Rush was strongly pushing for O'Donnell and already working the message about her being opposed to the Republican establishment. All of these messages have worked together well.

Obviously most don’t think she can win..even DeMint.

But at least DeMint is actually campaigning for her, unlike Rove who is campaigning against her.

He is prob working for his 2012 candidate who may run against Palin.

My guess is Mitch Daniels, who hates social conservatives.

Rove didn’t favor her, because he didn’t (doesn’t) think she can win.

Makes sense. Rove has been involved in picking which candidates will run on the Republican side in a lot of races over the years and he's always picked people like Specter. He has a history of thinking conservatives can't win.

Either that or he doesn't WANT conservatives to win. He's sure doing his best to destroy O'Donnell.

I think it was a fit of pique. Rove was probably thinking that Delaware was in the bag -- Castle was "so respected" and he was going up against an absolute Marxist. Wow! Given the current climate, Delaware was a gimme!!

Then Castle loses, and someone from very outside the beltway becomes the Marxist's opponent and Rove starts thinking -- "Damn! We just lost the state!"

He had a meltdown.

OTOH...Expect someone (RUSH OR HANNITY) to come out with the antidote to all her “problems” that Rove listed...Just to clear the plate for her....Better to bring your problems to the front and deal with them openly then to try to hide.

Now how do we get all the garbage about Coons out of the closet? October surprise?

A couple more thoughts addressing several ideas above.

1. There are few friends in politics, only interests at the time.

2. For the general public (not us) memory is short. One move could change the opinion of Rove back to the positive in most eyes. His popularity has jumped from positive to negative and back more times in the past decade than Tiger Woods swapped mistresses.

Bingo. Rove is simply not going to sacrifice his career just to get Odonnel elected. That theory is just plain nuts. Plus last year he tried to get the tea party folk to support Castle, and failed.

Tokyo Rove just lost it, but it appears to have nothing to do with a senate seat and something to do with him personally, that is the only explanation for his moronic childish tirades.

Don’t ever forget it was Rove who convinced Bush an amnesty program for illegals was good politics. He was wrong then and he is wrong now.

The man can best be understood as a master numbers geek. He views politics as little more than a chess game.

By his comments on Fox following the Primary on Tuesday convincingly displayed what many have always known about him, that he does not a clue about the dynamics of movement politics.

You’re thinking too hard.

This is one of many coming battles of the Country Class vs. the Ruling Class. If you haven’t read Codevillas essay to understand what I mean.

http://spectator.org/archives/2010/07/16/americas-ruling-class-and-the/print

Rove makes his living off of the Ruling Class, his reaction is predictable once you stop thinking of Liberal vs. Conservative or R vs. D. Winning this war will take many such battles, won’t be easy and may take more than one election cycle.

Agree. He could of respectfully wished O'Donnell the best without an enthusiastic "endorsement". This would take care of the "establishment" support.

His flat out trashing her is not only fodder for the competition, but forever degrades Tokyo Rose's ability to offer a "fair and balanced" opinion.

His contempt toward her seemed like a genuine reaction on Hannity. He also was strongly against AZ new law.

I wish he would put the air time toward exposing her opponents Marxist ideology instead.

It's hard to imagine he's part of some grand strategy here.

It seems more likely there is something personal here we do not understand, or there is something in his psyche that is reacting in a crazy kind of way.

I wish we understood this, but he seems to have performed his own sexless version of Wilbur Mills in the fountain.

He may have so totally bought into his own belief that conservatives can't win, that he feels that it's necessary to prove to himself and others that he's right. If O'Donnell wins, everything he's done over the years on forcing candidates on us like Specter over Toomey has been proven to be wrong.

Well, Rove said this morning on Fox that he had helped her out because he had tons of e-mails telling him they were contributing to her campaign because of him. He then offered suggestions that he felt would help her to combat some of the charges against her. In the end, I believe he will end up helping her intentionally after watching him this morning.

So Rove flushed all goodwill along with his reputation, straight down the toilet to help a candidate he was campaigning against.

And Rush was in on it, by trashing Rove to smithereens before an audience of millions, referring to Rove as “It’s Washington against us,” decrying the fact that Rove never spoke up against the REAL enemies, allowed Bush to be smeared while Rove advised silence, lambasted Rove for ripping into the candidate when the survival of the country is at stake, etc.

HAHAHAHAHA, best laugh I’ve had all day. For a minute there, I thought you were serious.

You are about the 5th Freeper I have seen touting this kook theory.

;-)

Some want to hold on to the incredible myth of Rove the Genius.

It ain’t so, and it never was. The sooner everyone wakes up to that fact, the better off we’ll all be.

Surely you can drink more Kool Aide than that. Think about Newt, (Mr. Pelosi)’s sofa ad about Cap N’ Trade. CNT already passed the House. Is it possible that some GOP Powers that Be want CNP passed, possibly in the lame duck session? Isn't this election about replacing Biden’s seat and if so, wouldn't they be seated immediately? Castle was a sure thing for Cap N Trade. O’Donnel may be the lone vote keeping CNT from passing in the Senate lame duck.

That is a really good point. The election comes down to this: No matter what anyone thinks of Christine personally, a vote against her, and for Coons, means supporting the bankruptcy of America for generations. AND, that is the message that must resound throughout America. A vote for Christine is a vote to stop the plunder! Castle would have been used to make our financial calamity “bipartisan”. He already voted for the insane cap and trade scam! Bob
