I actually used the same recipe for batter-dipped deep-fried bacon that guy in Texas (who invented it) used. In fact, I did for a section project in culinary school. Everything down to the cream gravy. Dean, my instructor-chef, thought I was nuts. However, it turned out fine, I got the credit for it, and ended up eating most of it myself...since none of my fellow students would touch it. It was yummy.

Truly, the greatest culinary achievements are foods that are scrumptiously yummy, yet none of your friends will eat them all.

That's why I switched to Guinness beer while I was in college. None of my roommates would drink it, and yet it was good.
