Former Rep. Joseph DioGuardi of New York won the Republican nomination to take on Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in November’s election.

With 85 percent of the precincts counted in yesterday’s primary, DioGuardi had 42 percent of the vote, according to the Associated Press. David Malpass, a former Bear Stearns Cos. chief economist, had 38 percent and Bruce Blakeman, a lawyer, had 20 percent.

DioGuardi, 69, represented the northern New York City suburbs in the House from 1985 to 1989. He and Gillibrand, 43, are running to serve the two years remaining in the term won in 2006 by Hillary Clinton, who President Barack Obama named in 2009 to serve as U.S. secretary of state.

DioGuardi also is the nominee of New York’s Conservative Party. His daughter Kara, a singer-songwriter, was a judge on the “American Idol” television show.

I don’t like “Bear, Stearns” Not the message we’re going for this year.

His campaign should highlight that Gillibrand was only one of 3 or 4 senators that voted to keep funding ACORN - evnen little Shmucky Schumer didn’t vote yes on that.
For that vote alone, she should not be allowed to be re-elected

If there is shot of unseating Gillibrand - the GOP needs to be a better job of getting people out to vote - it looks like a lot more dems came out for the primaries here.

Well, what can I say ? John Kasich is polling 10 points ahead of Ted Strickland in the Ohio gubernatorial race.

Kasich, FYI, was a regional director for LEHMAN BROTHERS and got a huge severance package.

The association with LEHMAN did not seem to have hurt him.

"Joe is a global warming believer."

Global warming, or man-made global warming? Big difference.

A million years ago, most of the mid-west was covered in ice sheet. Today, no ice sheet. Yes, the earth is getting warmer. Is "man" the cause, probably not - cavemen did not drive SUV or operate coal-fired electric plants.

That’s one way to look at it. Another way is if you add up all the Republican primary votes and the Democrat senate primary votes against Gillibrand, there were more votes against her than for her.

Palin is pro-life and DioGuardi is the only pro-life candidate out of the three (DioGuardi, Malpass and Blakeman) who wanted to run against Gillibrand.

Joe DioGuardi is also a strong fiscal conservative, and even wrote a book on fiscal conservatism.

DioGuardi is also strongly pro-2nd amendment, like Palin, but Palin probably is a better shot. :)
