Reggie Bush to forfeit Heisman

Running back Reggie Bush has decided to hand over the Heisman.

Under pressure since his award winning 2005 campaign at Southern California was vacated, Bush said in a statement on Tuesday that he will forfeit the Heisman Trophy.

"One of the greatest honors of my life was winning the Heisman Trophy in 2005," the statement released by the New Orleans Saints reads. "For me, it was a dream come true. But I know that the Heisman is not mine alone. Far from it. I know that my victory was made possible by the discipline and hard work of my teammates, the steady guidance of my coaches, the inspiration of the fans, and the unconditional love of my family and friends. And I know that any young man fortunate enough to win the Heisman enters into a family of sorts. Each individual carries the legacy of the award and each one is entrusted with its good name.

I haven’t followed this story closely, but isn’t he magnanimously forfeiting the Heisman just moments before it’s taken away from him?

And when I say, “moments before”, I’m being dramatic.

Did OJ Simpson have to give his up for decapitating the mother of his children, and stabbing to death her friend?

Tell the Heisman trust to shove their stupid trophy.

Bush earned it on the field. It shouldn’t be revoked.

OJ did his crime after his sports career.

Bush's crime happens to have made him and his school ineligible to compete and rightfully so.

May I say it first?

Bush's fault!!!!

Yep ... he sure did.

"I definitely want it, I definitely want it,'' Young said in a "SportsCenter" interview. "But he won it fair and square definitely, and it's much respect to Reggie, man. He had a great career and he's already won a Super Bowl before me. I'm already mad about that.

"But at the same time I am definitely happy for him, man, and he is definitely the Heisman Trophy winner for that year. But if they send it over to me I am not going to say no to it.''

Darn right.

The Heisman and the NCAA are small beer compared to being a SB champion.

You are absolutely right. Reggie should tell them to
go to hell. What is given is not to be revoked without
the recipient doing it voluntarily. Is OJ’s still in
Las Vegas or did he sell it? JK

So if they award it to you they can revoke it. So your are never certain that you have it for sure?

Sounds like the Heisman Uncertainty Principle.

No decision was made to take the trophy away. However, you’re right there was much talk of doing so. Nevertheless, I think Reggie Bush made the decision that fighting to keep the trophy just wasn’t worth it. Better to give it back and enjoy playing in the NFL. Considering he’s making $$$ millions and has a Super Bowl ring as well the Heisman Trophy is just an over-rated award.

What sophomoric, immature gibberish.

Tell me Vince Young was not issued a college diploma. Please.

I hope this sets a precedent. Maybe I will live to see the Nobel Prizes awarded to Albore and Baraq Hussein Obama al-Mombasa rescinded.

Returning the Heisman is BS. He won it for performance on the field. He should keep it!!!!

BTW, has OJ returned his blood covered Heisman?

per wiki (who knows?)

O. J. Simpson’s 1968 trophy was sold in February 1999 for $230,000 as part of the settlement of the civil trial in the O. J. Simpson murder case.[
