WINCHESTER -- Samson the St. Bernard joins a growing list of dangerous dogs in the region that have attacked people or other animals.
Winchester General District Judge David S. Whitacre declared Samson "dangerous" Tuesday for biting a young boy in the face at a relative's home earlier this summer. The attack left the boy with wounds that required surgery at a University of Virginia hospital.

Why is this news? If the dog bit the boy hard enough to require surgery, then yes—the dog is dangerous. Put it down.
drawing RachelFaith into another discussion? LOL
Remember when not leaving little kids alone with big dogs was common sense?

Dogs are animals, like a cow, pig, or wolf, go figure.
Had it been my dad's dog this wouldn't even have made it to the papers. He'd have put it down before the kid even made it to the hospital......
Dad was a German Shepherd guy and he always said he would never have a dog that bites unless the bitee was an intruder. But then he always took the time to well train them........
I notice there’s not a word about what the kid might have been doing.
He could have been trying to light the dog on fire for all we know.
I was walking down the sidewalk in a local neighborhood...when I got in front of this house, and this BIG St. Bernard..ran up to me growling, threatening me. I stopped like a statue...and the dog would back off a bit. I would take a step..and the dog was right at me again.
We repeated that over and over...Went on for what seemed like an hour...but probably was only 10 minutes.
Once I inched out of "his yard" ...he quit. Scared me, big time....
No, no, this part of a larger campaign to raise Freeper’s awareness of dog attacks...This weekend’s discussion was just a fun side trip. :-)
I guess the ultimate thread would be “Pitbull on marijuana bites cop.” There would be a lot of people around here that would feel quite conflicted.

Dogs must be taught REAL quickly who the Alpha Dog(human) is within a family or they will revert to animal instincts very quickly.
To many people are getting dogs and treating them like people...guess what...they are an animal and will act like an animal unless you train them properly!!!
When I was a kid there was a house in the neighborhood that had a bull terrier. Unfortunately, this house happened to be smack in the middle of the shortcut to the local store...I used to fix two sandwiches for the trip, one for me, one for Oggie(spelling?). I’d keep my bike between the dog and myself and slowly feed him half the sandwich...then the other half on the way back.
A few years later a friend of mine was skipping school, and apparently was on his way to the same store. Oggie got on his ass, but unfortunately he didn’t have a sandwich for him. The lady (whose daughters were friends with my sisters, which is how I heard the real story) who owned the dog came home and heard “help, help” from a tree in her yard...Oggie had treed Jason and kept him there for a couple of hours. Jason told a different version of the story that didn’t involve treeing or cowardice...but Jason was known to stretch the truth, and I doubt Mrs. S was lying.
It was like having your own neighborhood monster to engage. You could outwit him, or you could feed him...but you couldn’t outrun him.
Muslims hate dogs. Asians sometimes eat them
I used to be afraid of Chihuahuas. A dog chased me onto a table once and into car trunk. I was also bitten on the stomach long ago.
Then, I got a great dog when I was in college. The dog grew BIG teeth and stood other dogs down in multiples. I loved that dog. Still do and think of him often. He cured me. We were pals.
Dog, like bees, know.
Oh. The article’s actually about a dog, and not Pelosi.

A German Shepard..when I was probably 10. Riding my bike down a sidewalk...and the dog just bit me in the bicep, and knocked me off my bike. I recall running up to someone's porch...And frankly that is all I remember. Ha!!
Second dog was a little pistol of a pissant dog...while I was cleaning pools during college. I knew he wanted a piece of me...from the get-go...and avoided getting bit for many weeks. But one day..I got lazy, I guess...and he got me.
The last one wasn't too long ago..and it's a good story. The little basturd...bit me in po dunk MS...while I was driving cross country.
Anyhoo....I've met enough Oggie's...!! HA!
