There are lots of "lukewarm" Christians. (Rev. 3:16) These are Christians who go whichever way the wind blows. They don't want to make waves.
This is a characteristic of human nature and something we all must guard against (as Christians).
But seeing as how many Christians are lukewarm (vote democrat, embrace homosexuals [viz. Episcopalians]), would it follow that there are many muslims who similarly don't uphold Islam's murderous tenets?
Moderate Muslims want the same thing as radical muslims- Islamic domination and the removal of any non-believer.
The radical will slit your throat to quickly accomplish his objective. The moderate will inflict a slow, painful death through invasion by legal immigration, mass conversion from within, grab control of the government via sympathetic politicians, impose Sharia Law... then slit your throat.
So, what’s the diff?
I’m going to respond to this blindly before reading other respones, but hell yes. I work/ and have worked with great people that are muslims. Hard workers from Iran and the Middle East. I have met many more baptists and catholics who are assholes.
Now Ill look at the responses...
They are only "bad" from our point of view. They are the best and noblest Islam has to offer from the Koran's point of view. If a Muslim does not want to be thought of as a bad person they need to find another religion. I suggest the Ahmandi sect. It claims to be Islamic but is peaceful.

A Christian repenting is much different than a Muslim repenting. Whereas a repentant Christian has to forgive people, confess sins and try to follow the example of Christ, a repentant Muslim need only kill some infidels to gain access into allah’s paradise. On the one hand you are talking about people who believe in God, the God Jesus described as Love, the one who Jesus said judges no man, the Father. Christians believe in Jesus who when being beaten said to his Father, “Forgive them for they know not what they do.” Muslims believe in the pervert Mohammad who literally sent his followers out to murder people who refused to convert. Big difference. That’s why talk about a reformation in Islam is naive, missing the point that the world doesn’t want reformed Muslims who actually follow their master’s bidding. The fundamentalist terrorists are the product of reformed Islam. So, in answer to your question, yes I think there are moderate Muslims, and I think they can be very dangerous people. The only good Muslim is an ex Muslim, one who has seen the error in the ways of Islam and left it.
That being said my hunch is that a fair number...if not a substantial number...of those who *call* themselves moslems actually aren't.I suspect that most such individuals are basically harmless.
I’d like anyone who believes they know ‘moderate, good’ Muslims to try this.
Get a Koran- find the passages that SUPPORT and ORDER the hate, violence and murder that Islam is committing today, and ask the ‘good Muslim’ if they would RIP those pages out of the ‘holy book’ and destroy them.
If Islam is being ‘defiled’ it is by the tenets of Islam itself. Are the ‘good’ Muslims willing to purge the Koran, and their religious beliefs, of these passages?
If not- if they consider EVERY word of the Koran ‘holy’- then they are as evil as it is.

I have a number of close Muslim friends who are very moderate and peace-loving.
To self: Wow, I’m against extreme islamic philosophy but didn’t expect this ignorant hatred... We have to work together in this society with others. I just didn’t expect this level of hatred from freepers. Some need to join the nutjob in Gainesville. I wonder how many of you posters would have the balls to express your anonymous critisism to the guy in the cubicle next to you face to face? Didn’t think so... No close personal friend of mine has ever expressed the least desire to fly airliners into skyscrapers, nor to the best of my knowledge have many neighbourhood soccer coaches done so.
