A TERRITORY girl is lucky to be alive after she was mauled by a savage dog.
Seven-year-old Meg Croton and her brother Connor, 9, had been feeding their family's dog - an eight-year-old mastiff cross - in their Humpty Doo back yard when the girl was attacked by the vicious hound.
"I tripped on a rock and fell, and I think I kicked his leg," Meg recalled the attack. "And then it hurt very badly and he was on top of me and ripped on my head. "But my brother saved my life."

The news report refers to the dog as “timid”. I prefer the more descriptive term “Fear Biter”. Herding dogs are prone to hyper-fearfulness and such dogs bite before thinking. Their “fight or flight” instinct makes them very dangerous if they are cornered.
So many people, when choosing a pup from a litter, will gravitate to the one cringing in the corner. That pup, nine times out of ten will grow up to be a fearful adult and will be far more likely to hurt someone than would its more outgoing littermates within its lifetime.

I know what dog bite injuries look like from personal experience having been injured three separate times myself. Despite my experience with dogs, gosh darn it, I still like them (except the yappie kind like pit yorkies).
