A TERRITORY girl is lucky to be alive after she was mauled by a savage dog.
Seven-year-old Meg Croton and her brother Connor, 9, had been feeding their family's dog - an eight-year-old mastiff cross - in their Humpty Doo back yard when the girl was attacked by the vicious hound.
"I tripped on a rock and fell, and I think I kicked his leg," Meg recalled the attack. "And then it hurt very badly and he was on top of me and ripped on my head. "But my brother saved my life."

Some dogs are EXTREMELY protective of their food and don’t care if you are taking the dish just to put more food in it. Hell, the little girl might have thought it was funny to try to take it away and watch him growl, not realizing the danger.
The last three dogs I have adopted have been adult, two of them from the pound, one came to us with serious behavioral problems.
Never had a problem.
Could be worse...the adjacent town is HUMPTY DOO DOO.
The last three IDEs my friend disarmed in Afghanistan didn’t blow him up either. Doesn’t make either one of these things any safer.
Your post is clearly and example of a limited self perception. Your experience accounts for nothing. Period. Not a valid sample or example.
Especially when you try and remain in the context of this story and my post.
Which is to say: Do NOT adopt and adult animal because you do not know.
YOU do NOT know. All you have is “SO FAR”. And all we have is your word.
In all likelihood, it is equally possible you are lying. Maybe your dogs ARE aggressive but you define it as not so. Maybe they are aggressive around your friend and neighbors. Maybe you do not even have any such dogs.
The point is, your story has NO bearing, NO impact, NO relevance on the LOGIC and the RISKS associated with the THREEFOLD Problem.
An unknown dog breed with an unknown history not raised with these children and obviously not well trained or treated... aka chained.
Those were the three things I was addressing. I could care less about how many wild unknown animals you seek out and what your personal beliefs or experiences may be.
My statement remains: DO NOT TAKE THE RISK WITH YOUR CHILDREN! BE RESPONSIBLE.
The End.
But you do know what specific breeds were selectively bred for over the centuries. Pointers and Setters find birds and point. Retrievers retrieve. And dogs bred to fight, fight. Pit Bulls and Mastiffs were selectively bred to fight.
Mastiffs are another fighting breed, and most likely something triggered this dog's inbred instinct to fight. This dog was a Mastiff cross.
And it is amazing how many stories of the fighting breeds attacking humans people are able to find and post here. Chet99 seems to find several per week.
Agreed. Which is why our loyal family dogs have all been registered AKC 5 or more generations and Collies and German Shepherds. My best puppy passed away just a few years ago at 13 years old. We paid $1,200.00 for her as a floppy eared pup in 1995.
Irresponsible pet owners are JUST as much the problem as are the “all dogs go to heaven” and can do no wrong crowd.
Raised on a farm, I know animals are just that: Animals. They are NOT without responsibility and risks. My horse could just as easily throw me and kick me as let me ride her. And RESPECT ... the same as for a loaded firearm is what is required.
That and very sound judgment.
And everyone knows that children NEVER lie...
Chet99 has a puppet master : 1COUNTER-MORTER-68
You’re going to accuse people beng negligent or abusive parents (”you may as well train your dogs to attack your children”) for aquiring pets in a way you disapprove of, then get all huffy when I object?
Please, post the study that backs up your claim that dogs aquired as adults and properly cared for are more dangerous than dogs raised from puppies given the same level of care.
It amuses me greatly to be called a fascist dog-hater on yesterday’s threads and an ‘animal idolater’ on today’s...I think I may start a list.
Promise?
If a dog bites a koran, muzzies will riot and burn American flags.
That "tripped and accidentally kicked his leg" thing is making me think she might have been tormenting the dog.
It’s sort of a serious “in-joke”.
You have to know the history.
Not sure what that means. I'm just amused, or bemused by those who seem to dismiss the fact that the dog breeds became specific breeds after centuries of selective breeding, and that those inbred characteristics are still in all these breeds, even if they are no longer used for those purposes.
Aw, you spelled it that way by accident?
I thought you were just being ironic. :)
As far as the dog threads go, I’m only posting two a day. Do they really cause you to suffer that much?
FReeper 1COUNTER-MORTER-68 has admitted, and Chet99 has confirmed, that he controlls Chet re: Pitbull postings.
It's one thing is it a chihuahua or Jack Russel...though they can hurt a child, they cannot seriously maim or kill one.
I guess that would be what most people refer to as a sock puppet. But I’m not familiar with the alleged puppet master.
