A TERRITORY girl is lucky to be alive after she was mauled by a savage dog.
Seven-year-old Meg Croton and her brother Connor, 9, had been feeding their family's dog - an eight-year-old mastiff cross - in their Humpty Doo back yard when the girl was attacked by the vicious hound.
"I tripped on a rock and fell, and I think I kicked his leg," Meg recalled the attack. "And then it hurt very badly and he was on top of me and ripped on my head. "But my brother saved my life."

A fenced in yard is simply a yard, or a portion of it, serving another purpose as a dog pen. That's what I have in a backyard. And I don't have a dog run, but a pen about 20' X 40'.
Everyone in a city doesn't have a yard with a fence. I just wondered what specific circumstance RachelFaith was discussing.
RachelFaith probably has a feelings based opinion on gun ownership too.

I adopted a 5 year old dog. It’s a Min pin/Chihuahua mix. He is very protective of his home and of me and my son when it comes to other dogs. He’s all of 8 pounds of fluff. So I’m not the least bit intimidated. He absolutely loves little children. He trots up to them and begs to be petted. Also, he has only a couple broken off teeth, so I don’t see an 8 pound dog with a couple teeth as being too dangerous. He’s more of a lover than a fighter anyway.
I disagree with you completely. Most rescue services foster dogs and are completely honest about any behavior problems. We got Bubba at age two and there is no sweeter, more loving dog in the world. We’ve had him for 7 years.
Pit or Boxer, maybe? He’s a handsome boy, either way! Looks like he’s contemplating deep, philosophical questions...

She is telling LongElegantLegs about kids and dogs when she has none and LongElegantLegs has both. She went so far as to say that LongElegantLegs experience meant nothing when she, RachelFaith in fact has none.
Sounds like a typical liberal to me.
I could be way off here, but I’m pegging her at around 16 or 17...Old enough to know it all, and young enough to let everyone know about it. :-)
Not that age has to dictate one’s opinions on a particular matter, but it usually does. I know I was a flaming lib at until I turned 18...
RachelFaith, this is just a courtesy ping. You don’t have to respond.
First, we had just the ONE dog. Mostly. We would occasionally, later in her years, take in another helping out with the ARL, but for the 90% of which I am speaking, just our one dog.
How is, as I posted above. Conditioning. Careful, meticulous and consistent training. She knew her space. Knew he limits. And on rare occasion WOULD wander, but usually not too far. And she always had the guilty look and knew it was wrong.
Second, we live in the country, so there isn't much of a traffic worry. But for an example, the old "fire dog" would stay near the fire station without cage or chain for years. It is this modern era of instant gratification and laziness which has contributed to the increase in these abuses. People used to care for their animals. Now, they are too busy.
I just spent the last hour looking to see if I had any of those old pics scanned on this computer. They must be on the big tower, so I can't post them right now. Maybe on another thread. Once I find them.

Everyone who has a dog in the city has a fenced back yard. Rarely do you see a fenced front yard, something about deed restrictions in most neighborhoods. Most dogs don’t live very long outside without a fence in the city.
Are you a human being? The reason I ask is that you seem to value dogs over children.

OK, look, I get it. You have small kids and wild untrained unknown dogs and the LAST thing you want to hear is that you are putting your children at risk.
Human nature. No drunk wants to hear about their problems either. No one who invests in the stocks wants to believe it is going to take a huge dive and be told NOW would be a ghood time to get out. I clearly see WHY you responded they way you did to my first post and WHY you took it so personal.
You have got a lot to lose and are UNWILLING to see and unwilling to HEAR the suggestion that you have put your own children at greater risk.

I have very strong feelings based on gun ownership.
First, the right to self defense is God given and inalienable.
Second, the defense of which we speak is not the criminal but the state.
Thirdly, whateversomuch defense is required to keep the state at bey is therefore lawful. And last I checked, we had many nations with battleships and nukes.
Therefore, I fully support the 2nd amendment in its absolutely understood original intent. Which is to say, my great (10x) grandfather owned several ships and was a wealthy merchant. All of his ships were 24 gun or greater frigates. He would go to arms against the French and the Spanish and against pirates to protect his cargo. He had that natural right.
If Bill Gates wishes to have his own navy and nukes, and can afford them, he has that right. Then let us see if China is willing to pirate his software under those terms and conditions.

Yeah, as a certified animal wacko, it pisses me off. I have adopted only adult dogs (five to date) and have never had a problem. I tend to adopt dogs which are 10 years of age and over because those are usually the ones that no one wants--listening to people like you, I guess.
And there's a reason they're old. They've been good, Ms. Faith, they have obeyed their masters, they don't pee or defecate on the floor, they don't bite, all those qualities that are desirable.
So, don't be spreading misinformation. It's unbecoming.

Let me make it clearly again, since obviously you haven't actually read it or are confused with all the flak overhead.
An unknown and untrained adult animal is a greater risk to harm children with which it does not have an established relationship, than is an animal raised from a pup around these same children and trained properly.
You "completely" disagree with that???
