Facebook users 'are insecure, narcissistic and have low self-esteem'
Mail Online ^

Using Facebook is the online equivalent of staring at yourself in the mirror, according to a study. Those who spent more time updating their profile on the social networking site were more likely to be narcissists, said researchers. Facebook provides an ideal setting for narcissists to monitor their appearance and how many ‘friends’ they have, the study said, as it allows them to thrive on ‘shallow’ relationships while avoiding genuine warmth and empathy.

I would think that narcissism and low self esteem were mutually exclusuive!

A narcissist isn't someone who selfishly and ruthlessly pursues their goals. Rather, a narcissist is someone who feels like they have no self, and desperately needs other people as mirrors for self-validation. Hence, the Narcissus myth.

True. Ninety percent of postings seem to be new photos that shout LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME, LOOK AT ME!

Yes, some people are self-obsessed and think you actually want to know what they had for dinner or what their thoughts of the day are.

Or even about their morning...... uh, elimination.

>>Nothing like wiping out the broad brush.<<

I assume you mean “whipping out” and anyone who posts their RL information on Facebook (much less twitter) is clinically insane.

You might as well put up a big neon sign: “STEAL MY IDENTITY!! SUCKER RIGHT HERE!!! STEAL MY IDENTITY!! SUCKER RIGHT HERE!!!”

Anyone who holds their cellphone 24-7 like an electronic pacifier is.

Doesn’t matter if they are chatting or texting or websurfing.

Plugging into the electronic teat to say “I’m HUNGRY” every 2 minutes is a sign of immaturity. “I’m waiting in a line right now...” “I’m still feeling last night...”

STFU.

You wouldn’t laugh if it was Clint Eastwood saying it.
