THE Troggs frontman Reg Presley has suffered a serious stroke while on holiday in Spain.
The 68 year old, whose bands hits include Wild Thing, Love Is All Around and With A Girl Like You, was playing with his grandchildren when he fell ill on Friday.
Now the singer, pictured, is out of hospital with his wife of 48 years, Brenda, but he has been left unsteady on his feet and with double vision.
His voice has also been affected, casting doubt whether the singer will ever perform again.
Brenda said: It was very frightening. He had a serious stroke. I was very upset at the time. He was in hospital for a week but is now back in our house in Spain recuperating. He wont be coming back to England for a few weeks.
An in-studio tape of Reg Presley’s running commentary on a recording session, filled with in-fighting and swearing (known as “The Troggs Tapes”) was widely circulated in the music underground, and was included in the Archaeology box set. The in-group infighting is believed to be the inspiration for a scene in the comedy film This Is Spinal Tap where the band members are arguing. Some of this dialogue was sampled by the California punk band The Dwarves on their recording of a cover version of the Troggs song “Strange Movies”...
This is sad, but oh my. He has grandkids and has been married 48 years? I feel really old!
I think I bought the 45 of ‘Wild Thing’ back when it came out. Definitely remember holding my transistor radio up to my ear and listening to it.
Best wishes Reg. The Troggs frakin’ ROCK!!!
You make my heart sing...you make everything grovy...wild thing. (AIR GUITAR)
And if you don’t sing along, all of your kids will be born completely naked. - Jimi Hendrix
I think I only heard it on the radio but I remember it. I was just a baby of course.
Here’s a little known fact. Wild Thing was written by Jon Voight’s brother...Chip Taylor.
John Voight the dentist?
He also wrote Angel of the Morning.

I sure liked the Troggs back in the day. IMHO, a great band.
His wife of 48 years? Wow! That’s unheard of. He’s a rock & roll hero.
I remember that.
What a stroke of bad luck.
