The theory holds that a large (re: fat) person has a layer of fat around the abdominal cavity that doesn’t allow the stomach to expand as needed during an eating competition. Sure the big guy has a bigger stomach at rest, but it can’t expand dramatically the way it needs to compared to an in-shape thinner person.

I'll never understand what drives people to do competitive eating? It looks painful to me. That guy Chestnut has veins popping out of his forehead while he's stuffing hot dogs down his throat. Just thinking about how they feel a few hours later is enough to keep me away from doing it.
