The rebirth started long before the rise of fascism in Europe. Tel Aviv was founded in 1909. Mos of the people who came to "Palestine" in the late 19th and early 20th century may not have started out as farmers, but they quickly became farmers.

Tel Aviv was indeed founded in 1909, but the Jewish population in Israel at that time was not much more than 50,000. Between the rise of Mussolini in 1922 and the full implementation of the Nuremberg Laws in 1936 the Jewish population of Israel grew almost 500% to over 420,000 from about 90,000.
And the rise of fascism can arguably be dated to before 1909, with national socialistic and anti-Semitic movements in France during the time of the Dreyfus affair.
