"The Big Broadcast is a Sunday night tradition for families throughout the WAMU listening area. Each week, Big Broadcast host Ed Walker offers listeners priceless recordings of popular radio programs from the '30s, '40s and '50s. Priceless, especially, for a man whose first sentence as a child was, 'Turn the radio on.' "

Johnny and Vincent travel to Paris where Vincent gets Johnny to impersonate a wealthy Texan, Mr. Matthews, who spends money all over the town and attracts attention with his desire to purchase art work. He is approached by Le Chat Gris. This is Johnny's very first encounter with his French friend Louis DuMarsac, known as "Le Chat Gris", The Grey Cat. It's difficult to say when the players are wax figures. The cards have been dealt to each "man" but mean more than a royal flush - much more, maybe murder! In the middle of March of 1941, New Yorker Bert Rogers, from the Daily Record newspaper, enters Madame Tousoud's Wax Museum. As German bombers are flying overhead to their destination, Mr. Pearson escorts Rogers to the Chamber of Horrors. Rogers' partner, Suzie Dubois, who effects a French accent. Pearson mentions that the four card playing wax dummies seem to have their cards rearranged. Rogers suspects that the 52 cards can be used to represent the 26 letters of the alphabet in a code. Rogers cracks the code to discover that Q-Factory (where a new bomber is being built) will be hit by dive bombers at 10 PM. Rogers and Suzie head for the secret Q Factory location. Near their destination they are hailed by a man claiming to be Captain Macalester, a tree doctor, who asks the time. Rogers, whose watch is running slow gives him the wrong time. At the hidden factory the two reporters talk to Captain Bronson who informs them that Macalester paints chemicals on the surrounding vegetation to keep them healthy. A swarm of Junker 88 bombers fly overhead. They apparently are looking for some indication of where to attack. Rogers realizes that it is after 10 o'clock, and that "Macalester was probably ringing the factory with crude oil to ignite to pinpoint the target for the bombers, but being a good Nazi he is waiting for what he believes to be 10 o'clock. Rogers figures that if they can reach Macalester before the oil is ignited they can foil the attack. As they get Macalester in sight he is cut down by a stray Nazi bomb.

It must have been one of your posts on the Big Broadcast that my husband read three weeks or so ago, and we have been tuning in each Sunday evening since.
Thank you for posting this! We LOVE these shows, especially since we don’t have a television. They’re wonderful.

Cool Alabama evening to you, Vision. Expecting a low of 51 here tonight.

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

I’ve been to DC about a half dozen times in less than the last two years. It is a very easy city to walk, and the Metro is very convenient. So much to see and do. Great restaurants. This last trip we went to La Chaumiere in Georgetown among others.

The wife is working (she's the manager and get a bonus for doing so), but while she's off, I plan on heading down to the river and getting some much overdue fishing in. Then, when she gets home, we'll fire up the grill and hop in the pool for a while dinner as cooks to a turn. I also took the whole damn week off (I've earned THAT a dozen times over!), so I'm under no pressure to cram a flurry of activity into the weekend. The wife also took several days off, so we may just get a burr under our saddles and hop in the car for a long weekend at the beach at some point. On the Atlantic side, though. I'm extremely leery of what still may be going on in the Gulf. I'm also remodeling the bathroom, so if I can just get that finished up, having a throne fit for The Gods would be just as satisfying a vacation. LOL Any plans on your end?

I met Vincent Price at a lecture he gave at Frostburg State U in '83. I consider myself a lucky man.

The closest my palate will ever get to that is liverwurst and butterkase with red onion on pumpernickel. LOL With a good Bavarian mustard, of course.
