It had the same effect as Archie Bunker did, then. People identified more with the character for how he was, than were repulsed by him for what he did/said.

It's rumored that McDonald's adjusted its policy on breakfasts because of this movie.

True! It intentionally was lampooning middle class white men who were being laid off from their jobs, and going crazy.

Wrong. Watch it with an eye toward socio-economics and the buggaboo of the day, corporate downsizing.

Yes, but the message has turned 180 degrees as time has passed. A lot of people, to one degree or another, empathize with the Douglas character. Especially the “99ers”. And I think a lot of guns have been sold to them the last couple years.

Nope, just shows that a seemingly normal person can be pushed to the edge and once that starts it gets progressively worst.
