Amazing how every actor that comes down with cancer or some other debilitating disease is always so angry that nobody diagnosed it soon enough to help them...

Maybe their GOD complex should prevent them from dying like the rest of us, eh? Or maybe, just maybe, their NARCISTIC self importance ego makes them so difficult to give bad news to that their high paid doctors are TERRIFIED OF giving them bad news, eh?

Shame about Douglas, but I never cared for the womanizer anyway and his trophy wife will find another rich actor a day after the funeral.

"Falling Down" was a good movie, but it was also from the "Angry White Male" liberal template. I'm surprised that Hollywood hasn't jumped on that meme again with Obama as President.

You are mistaken. A delay in diagnosis upsets normal people. And the complain. I know, I have been there

So have I numbnuts. Lymphoma stage 3B, Hence the "we".

What a bad experience for you - and also for your friends.

Hope your husband and your friends' daughter and doing OK now.

Yes, but like “V for Vendetta”, time has skewed its meaning. It is now working for the other side.

Kinda like Reefer Madness. :)

I think that Zeta-Jones has kept Douglas too busy to bother with left wing politics. It’s a big change from Maureen Dowd.

Really?

Wasn't aware there was such a pattern with actors.

Who else did you have in mind?

Douglas himself was quoted as saying he doesn’t want to cast blame on anyone.

M.D. stands for Medical Doctor, not Minor Deity. Or it should, anyway.

I would also be very angry. It is our responsibility to advocate for ourselves.

Doctors can be honestly wrong, and if they are any sort of doctor at all, they shouldn't have an issue with the patient or his/her representative saying "I need a second opinion" or "I know that there is something wrong. Please check again".

I had more than 15 years of debilitating, painful symptoms because doctors never looked any further than what seemed to be the "simple" answer.

It all finally ended when a surgeon, of all people, picked up on what I was saying rather than what the symptoms seemed to point to, and diagnosed me without any tests at all. Genetic, blood, and tissue tests affirmed her diagnosis. She solved a problem that at least a dozen other doctors overlooked. Since then (2.5 years ago) I've been getting steadily better.

Always advocate for yourself. No one else is going to do it.

Glad you found a doctor who found out what ailed you.

May you continue to make good progress.

Some cancers are much more aggressive than other types...Common skin cancer is highly curable, yet the skin cancer melanoma is an aggressive and fast spreading kind...Lot of times it depends on where the original cancer has already spread to other parts of the body...once it metastasizes its tough to get a cure.....

Why call me a name? People get angry and complain over missed diagnoses, what about my saying that offends you and has you being so rude?

It is what it is.

I'm sorry for your loss but encouraged that you accept the medical profession for what it is. They are professionals trying to do the best they can for us, they are not Gods............and they DO suffer along with the families of those who die under their care.

My brother-in-law is an oncologist and unfortunately, the majority of his patients die from their respective cancers despite all of his medical knowledge.

I guess in that field one has to focus on the success of the survivors rather than those who died in order to maintain sanity.........

I truly sympathize with Ms. Zeta-Jones, but am also troubled by what I saw on Entertainment Tonight this evening--that she and the two children are in...the BAHAMAS! She actually was quoted as saying "what good is it to be around the house crying when I can take the kids to the beach where they can have fun". I do not want to judge her, and he may well have asked her to take them away. But aren't there beaches near L.A.? And shouldn't she be by her husband's side when he may be facing catastrophic surgery or even death? Just sayin'.

Prayers for Michael Douglas (although I still hate him for wrecking the U.S. nuclear industry with "The China Syndrome")

He already looked a bit gaunt on the clips I’ve seen from Letterman, IMO. (Making it clear that I don’t watch Letterman.)
