ORANGE A challenge to a woman's right to breastfeed in a local store has prompted mothers to stage a "Nurse-In" on Saturday.
Rose Homme said she was shopping in Cost Plus World Market in The Village at Orange on Aug. 20 and about to leave when her 10-month-old son, Oliver, began to get fussy.
"As I began walking out, I started to feed him," Homme said.
An employee approached her and asked that she cover up or feed Oliver in the bathroom or outside the store.
"I told her that it's California state law that I can feed my child anywhere," Homme said. "Then she asked out of respect for myself and other customers for me to cover up."
Homme, 29, said the discussion quickly turned into a shouting match.
"I wasn't exposing any more than I would in a tank top," Homme said. "It wasn't obscene."

Sexist pig alert: the ones who go topless are never the ones you want to see go topless.
What’s next, a breastfeeding mom’s wall calendar?
*ducks*
A breast doesn't magically turn into a bottle just because a baby is nearby - it is still a breast.
Personally, I don’t understand why women can’t go topless when it’s warm outside. I mean, I have the same things (up top anyway) as them. I have nipples and those little circles (aria’s?) too. But I don’t have to cover mine and they do? This really is some whacked out world we live in.
Actually the breast is the original baby bottle.
I agree with you. Unfortunately our culture has decoupled rights from responsibilities. In granting rights in a free society, there used to be an expectation the right would be exercised with tact, taste and equinimity. Today, with the in-your-face culture, rights are a license to abuse others. One has only to look at race relations, disabilities litigation, bikeriders groups, ad infinitum to see that people given an inch demand a mile more and more.
There are an increasing number of major cities that do not even permit adults to go see topless dancing anymore.
They have mandated pasties in Seattle, Houston, and elsewhere.
Yet gay pride parades permit open fornication along the parade routes.
Down is up.
I do not understand this in your face breastfeeding. I am currently nursing my third child and have absolutely no desire whatsoever to whip it out in public and feed her. Women have nursed their babies for a long, long time but this need to do it in other people’s faces is a new phenomenon. How hard would it have been for this woman to have waited until she was in her vehicle? Everyone would have been more comfortable. Or why doesn’t she buy a BFing cloak? What do these women have against being discreet?

Its not about breastfeeding, its about a bunch of whinny liberals who want to (1) show the world that they love their babies more than those hoorible women who use formula (2) that they have the right to do what they want (3) flash their boobs in public so that a man would look at them and (4) when they do, they can chastize them for being sexist pigs/perverts/etc.
I was in a Radio Shack once and a woman standing in the middle of the store, whipped out a boob and started feeding her baby right in front of the teenaged store clerk that she was talking to. Poor kid got so discombobulated and tried to look away, but she kept up the pressure. It was like a game to her. I see women breastfeeding in public more often than I would like. Some have the decency to go to a more private area and use discretion, others do not. The majority of those who seem to like to whip it out in front of the world all have the same look... think Obama voter...

No shoes, no shirt, no service.
Exactly
Normal reasonable people can reach a compromise on this matter where the feeder is able to do so and the rights of the random passersby are respected.
Unfortunately, the screaming feminazis are not normal reasonable people and will not compromise in any way.
Very good description. All of the women I know who are the militant breast feeders are hard core liberal worshipers of the Goddess types
boingie-boingie-boingie
becomes:
boingie(slosh)-boingie(slosh)-boingie(slosh)
You got that right. I was at Babies R Us the other day and a woman was sitting cross-legged in the middle of the store feeding her baby. Babies R Us has specially designated Mother’s Rooms with couches and chairs for mothers to go to breastfeed in private. But no, she still had to sit in the middle of the store and bring attention to herself. I think that is what it is all about, HEY LOOK AT ME!!
OK, I’ll be first. Pictures would be helpful! There, said it.
