I remember driving through that area on Hwy. 90 back around 1970. It seemed like there was nothing but swamp interspersed with rivers for miles and miles. Although I grew up in a rural area sparsely populated, I had never seen anything like that.

I kept wondering how anyone could find there way in that mess.

I have liked Cajuns ever since I was 18 and worked for two of them for a day. They were professional movers and hired me for the day. The set wage was $20 which was fair in 1965. They bought my dinner and when we were through, the big one pulled out his wallet, gave me a 20 then thought for just a second and handed me another one.

Don’t know if any of you remember that movie from the 70s called “Southern Comfort” with Powers Booth and Keith Carradine. It was about National Guardsmen mixing it up with swamp people. I saw it several weeks ago on some cable channel. I thought it was pretty good.

One of the most beautiful girls I have ever met was a Cajun, at least I guess she was because she had black hair, black eyes, was from Lafayette LA and had a French sounding name, Arfon or Arton or something like that.

It was in Panama City Beach and she was with another girl. They were both Cheerleaders at LSU. Really sweet girls too. I normally prefer Blonde or light brown hair and blue eyes but pretty is pretty, and she was pretty.

We used to live in Houma. At first, it took a bit of getting used to since we were coming down from Ohio but adapted in short order. The motto of Louisiana being a sportsmans paradise is not far from the truth.
