What started as a walk to the park with his dogs ended with a trip to the hospital for a Denver dog owner. 32-year-old Mark Ashford says he was beaten black and blue by two Denver Police officers.
"They punched him and pinned him up against the fence and forced his head into the concrete." Ashford's attorney, Will Hart, said the beating that was caught on camera is a clear case of Excessive More..Force. "This happened when he was walking his dogs, he has a conversation with another citizen that the police officer doesn't like and as a result, he ends up in the hospital," said Hart.
Hart says Mark Ashford was walking his dogs near 20th and Little Raven in LoDo, when he saw police pull over a driver for failing to stop at a stop sign. Ashford told the driver he saw him stop and would be willing to testify in court. Hart says the officer overheard him and "wasn't very happy."
That's when Ashford says the Denver police officers demanded his I.D. and detained him. Ashford tried to take a picture of the officers to document the incident, and a few second later he was on the ground.
Police charged Ashford with interference and resisting arrest. Hart says, the charges were later dropped because the officers violated Ashford's 4th amendment rights, "they had no reason to stop him, take his ID or detain him.
An Excessive Force complaint was filed against both officers involved. A Denver police spokesperson says the internal affairs department has completed its investigation, but they are now turning the case over to the independent police monitor. Police won't say if the officers were disciplined in any way until the investigation is complete
;)
LOL Now you are being an ass.
And you still failed to answer the simple question...
I hope you're never required to testify in court.
Feel free to answer #60..
Did you?
Michael is typical of some people that are willing to incrementally give up our rights. The Man with the dog had every right to do what he did.
The Police are paid to understand the law and apply it legally. What the man did with the dog was pure and simple LEGAL!!!! This can not be disputed.
By saying that he could have avoided it is pure stupidity! Bottom line.....the Cops could have preventing it by just ignoring the guy. I guess that you could use the same logic and say the guy could have avoided it by never going out of the house and staying in a fetal position while sucking his thumb.
What happens very often is that Police know that they have power and occasionally do abuse their power. When this happens, very often there is not a camera around to record it and they get away with it. In this case, it was recorded.
I have discussed this over and over on other boards and my conclusion is that some Officers HAVE TO BE RIGHT all of the time and can’t stand anyone standing up to them.
The Man with the dog was standing up to them and expressing what he saw.
Whether or not the driver did stop at the stop sign is a different issue.
#1. Did the video evidence show the dog walker being attacked while he was speaking to a motorist?
#2. Did the video evidence depict the dog walker being attacked after the fact, as the cops approached him, while he standing on the sidewalk by himself?
Can you be honest here?
1 or 2?
Damn....I’ve never seen anyone run as fast as you from the truth and hard video evidence....
Michael has previously been involved in three incidents, as a witness: two were traffic accidents and the third was a police arrest, which got a bit rough.
Each time michael watched, waited and then identified himself to the appropriate person, so as to avoid potentially being caught in the middle.
This guy would have been wise to do the same.
You guys stand back.....I am about to shred this Michael person
He stated information that may very well have occurred outside of the camera range or before it started. Listen to him again, since you have nothing better to do.
OK. Just try not to do it in the third person.
Ya know what, what the attorney said, or anyone else said, has nothing to do with this assault.
There is clear video evidence of the attack. You doing nothing but kicking up dust in an effort to deceive and distract.
Why are you refusing to answer the question below?
#1. Did the video evidence show the dog walker being attacked while he was speaking to a motorist?
#2. Did the video evidence depict the dog walker being attacked after the fact, as the cops approached him, while he standing on the sidewalk by himself?

The attack occurred after the dog walker spoke with the motorist, while standing by himself on the sidewalk.
Why are you denying this?
Why are you defending these cops?
1.The video starts after the incident to which the attorney is referring to. The attorney clearly says the victim approached the driver when the cops were there giving him the ticket.
2. I have never said the cops were justified or right in their actions, infact I said the opposite in one my first comments, but you may not have been paying attention to that little detail.
3. I still believe the man who got beat up could have avoided doing so by waiting and approaching the driver when the cops were not there.
I also am friends with and have known many Police Officers. I used to work with them. ( drove an ambulance when I was younger )
It is a tough job, but they have to stay within the law or we are in trouble.
Another reason why we have Freedom Of The Press. To keep the Gov in check. Without it, we would loose our rights one by one.
Taking a video of this scene is just one way to keep them in check. As more and more of us video tape various situations, the word gets out that they have to be professional and legal.
I wouldn’t want anything less.
My comment from Post # 15: But even that in no way would justify the cops reaction.
Does that sound like a defense of the cops?
Because we don’t really care what’s on the front page of your local paper, unless it impacts nationally.
‘No city needs police officers who are criminals’.
“Actually, that is what the entire political class wants.
The hiring of thugs then giving them more pay than they would ever get in their lifetime doing anything they were actually capable of, and also giving them a free hand to satiate their thug egos by allowing them to terrorize the citizenry.
The politicians want to suppress the serfs (citizens) and making sure the police are corrupted into a brute squad furthers their agenda.”
Sheesh! Take off the rose-colored glasses, OM!

LOL! I finally watched the whole thing, and saw that “she” is actually a male...and he did sit on the dog walker, and go and get the dogs, who had ran in the road....tough guy. Real tough. Tough when they have on a badge...
